So bit of background first.
On my last system I noticed a wierd issue when installing Elite Dangerous.
It will get about 30% to 50% of the way through the install and then all of the sudden it will just freeze up and at the same time lock up the Windows Desktop, to the point I couldn't open the Start Menu or any programs, Task Manager etc.
Eventually it would carry on installing the game, but I still couldn't use the Start Menu etc and once it had finished installing, I had to use CTRL+ALT+DELETE to reboot the PC.
Sometimes though when it started installing again the Start Menu etc would work again like normal, but would be sluggish.
My dad had similar issues on his system as well.
Yesterday I upgraded both mine and my dad's CPU's to the spec below, and we both have the exact same issue.
Dad's PC
Ryzen 3950x (was a I7 7700K)
32GB Corsair 3600Mhz
MSI X570 Unify Motherboard
Deepcool Castle 360mm EX AIO
MSI GTX 1080Ti
WD 1TB NVME SN750 SSD
Corsair 850w PSU
My PC
Ryzen 5950x
32GB Corsair 3600Mhz
Gigabyte X570 Auros Elite Motherboard
Corsair H150i Elite Capellix AIO
MSI RTX 2080Ti
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB PCI-E 4 NVME SSD
Corsair 1Kw PSU
So I have tried obviously 3 different CPU's, Mobo's, set's of ram, PSU's and tried different GPU's, as I have a old GT430 on the shelf and the same issue presented on all config's.
I tried different power settings within Windows, different ram speed's, CPU clock speeds, SMT enabled and disabled, installing to a 2.5" SSD and a 3.25" HDD and it was the same.
The only thing that seemed to help more than anything was changing from the Onboard NIC to a Dedicated NIC card, but that also didn't work yesterday for my Dad on basically my old CPU, Mobo etc the 3950x.
Both systems are running Windows 10 Pro, fully up to date with all drivers updated and have even tried it without installing Windows updates on a fresh install, without up to date drivers, without AMD Chipset driver etc.
Tried setting GPU to "Prefer Max Performance" incase it was a "Rendering" issue with the launcher (who knows wierder things have happened)
Has anyone else experienced this?
