Hardware & Technical Elite: Dangerous on a 60 inch LCD LED TV

Just had a thought. If I connect my desktop computer to my big screen TV using HDMI out and buy myself a wireless controller (like the XBox 360 game pad) I can watch and play Elite: Dangerous in 1080p with 60 inches and booming sound via my sound system...

:D

It's a good idea, doing something similar. I'd go with a wired connection - you don't want any nasty battery failures or wireless latency issues spoiling your day.. :D

has anyone noticed latency with the Xbox gamepad? I thought they were okay. You may want to look out for lag on your telly though. Some of them come with picture mangling features that wash and press your movie before they display them on the screen. If it doesn't come with a gaming mode option then just switch off any picture processing features your telly has.

... remembering to turn them back on after of course.

This was the way I was thinking of going, but will a TV provide a high enough resolution for a game like E: D?
I suppose PS3 & Xbox games look pretty good on a TV, but how easy would it be to read news feeds, HUD info and such, I wonder?

That's pretty much how I've got my system set already, useful for watching films and the suchlike. but ED will be stunning on that kind of setup. :D

Depends on the TV I guess. Perhaps I need to upgrade before the end of the year? Good excuse if I can afford it. Saw this one in store. The web browser was very clear - 1080p;)

Yeah I played the new XCom this way. It was awesome.

You can also get inexpensive LCD projectors nowadays for much less that the cost of a 60 inch telly. All you need is a large wall to project it on (preferabbly painted white or covered with board).

Mine was a wedding present. I could never have afforded a HD Smart TV. Well I'd never have forked out for one.

Wire me up...

I don't have the Xbox, but I get it with the PS3 pretty bad if the charge is too low, or I'm six inches too far away. Size, or rather, distance does matter in this case.

Currently everything is cabled up, since after my wife pressured me into making it all wireless, we started to encounter problems...First was the new wireless speakers on the surround sound interfering with the WiFi, so changed the channel and then started getting the cordless home phone mixed in. Finally found a clear channel and we had some success, but the internal TV (Samsung) WiFi receiver was suck, so had to get a USB one. Then it would only give me 65mbps on a good day because of it's position...so switched back to a cat5... the PS3 controller would act up because the kids fail to understand my need to have it charged. Then I got lag on the WiFi of the Playstation, never found out why and just used one of those wall ethernet over power plug thingies.

They've just released an upgraded version of the Samsung TV I was going to buy (4K F9000). 3840 pixels × 2160 pixels with video up-scaling for lower resolutions!!!

If Elite: Dangerous (and my PC) supported that resolution imagine how amazing it would look on 55 inches or above? It's $5,000 for the 55 inch version here in Australia, so my budget would be massively stretched (actually, it would be completely thrown out the window).

I currently play all my games on my 40" 1080p TV.
Only issue I find is the text is certain games is too small to read without sitting forward and I only sit about 3 feet from the screen.
Some games allow you to increase the interface size and text which is great.
Hopefully E: D will allow something similar.

Im of an age where I need glasses to read and use a computer monitor.
But I dont need to wear them while I watch TV and the same is true when I connect my PC to the TV too.

I can also sit on my nice comfy sofa with my feet up and immerse myself in a PC game. I dont have a PS3 or Xbox but I regularly use an xbox controller to play games.

X-rebirth will be playable using an xbox controller and I am hoping ED will too.

By a fortuitous happen stance I now have a 'spare' 1080p TV which is going to be a monitor for Elite Dangerous. A mere 40" of 1920x1080 loveliness. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

If it's a 3D TV then you may be able to push up the v-synch to 120Hz. You get noticeably faster framerates in games. It works on my 50 inch Pany Plasma. I usually drag a small table and sit on an arm chair, mouse, keyboard, strategic commander and Sidewinder Precision Pro. 50 inch TV with the 5.1 sound system totally alters the experience...

Grats, same thing "happened" here too.
Albeit I'm only on 32", but I'll be sitting quite close to the screen - about 2' normally and 3' when leaning back on my chair :D.
