Hi I am thinking about buying elite dangerous but to my dissapointment it won't be Mac compatible for about 3 months and I don't want to wait that long, I have also looked into various bits of software to run windows on Mac such as boot camp and parallels 7, however they would a add a considerable amount of money to my small budget and when I looked at parallels 5 it said that games could run ok but not amazing which would ruin dangerous' amazing graphics so I am wondering what to do, please help
Thanks in advance

I don't think it works well under parallels so dual booting would be best. I have no experience with Macs though so that is based on a few posts I have seen.

I have been playing in a iMac using bootcamp without problem since first day.
I have installed in a parallel´s partion and the game works almost perfectly, because when i try to see the map system the parallel portion close. So i have to play in bootcamp.
Waiting the native mac version.

vmware/parallels :( bootcamp :)

I tried several vitual machines... they don't work great with the GPU directly though if at all.
I have had fantastic experience with boot camp though , easy to setup from OSX and run dual boot...

at the moment I'm running Windows 10 preview , the bootcamp NVidia drivers linked to my macs GFX card and that's about it...

I've installed Elite Dangerous and it plays medium quality at 1080p. 60FPS

As others have said a VM is not the way to go for gaming on Mac. If there is no native Mac client, bootcamp is the way to go.

Like Paul stated, I also am running Windows 10 Preview (it's a free download: https://insider.windows.com) in Bootcamp on a Mac Mini w/o issue @ 1080p, not sure of my exact FPS, but definitely useable.

Best of luck.

PS Bootcamp is also free and pre-installed on your Mac in the Utility folder.
