Proposal Discussion Elite Dangerous Online Store Ideas.

Though the Elite Dangerous Online Store is still in its infancy im sure that Frontier have plenty of ideas for items being added.

but what would you like to see in the store and what sort of prices would you expect to pay for such items?.

let me get the ball rolling with.
I would like to see 4 to 6 inch Diecast ship model's with a retail price of £29.99, at this price I would expect them to be diecast, possibly with some moulded plastic for the finer details.

my reason for this price is that if you look online you can find plenty of diecast models for £19,99 ranging from Star Trek to Star Wars.

Do you agree with my suggestion or do you have another idea for something to be added to the Store?

Custom paint schemes for player ships as well as a variety of decals.

This would allow players to customise the look of their ship to give it a bit of individual flare.

Fluffy dice or equivalent to hang at the front of our cockpits.

Price though depends on quality. For instance with cuff links I'd pay more for a nicely designed and manufactured set. Same goes for any suggestions people make I'd guess.

For my suggestion:

A baseball cap type thing but with a twist, with advice from the guys at TrackIR about how to optimise it for use with the cap clip that TrackIR uses. I'd pay a tenner for it maybe though I haven't a clue about how much a cap normally is. I'm far too distinguished to wear such an item routinely. :D

Cloth badges. A one for each faction would be nice, although I don't think it would pay for FD, but on the other hand, a cloth badge for ED & the other previous Elite games (80's & 90's), would more than likely be a seller. :)

One word, mate - POSTERS!

I'm sure you have seen the faux travel posters that have been designed for numerous fantasy and off-world locations in the style of old-time British rail posters?
eg

These would be a license to print money. "Deep-sea ice fishing on Europa" "See Fabulous Earth - Where It All Began!" "Lovely Lave - Jewel of the Sector" etc. Commission a set of 12 artworks and the product lines are endless:

High quality 36 x 24 in posters - £25-30
18 x 12 prints in poster sets - £50 for 6
Tea-towels - £5-10
Scarves - £10-15
Glasses - £10 each or all 12 for £100
Coasters - £15 for a set of 6

Basically, anything you find in a seaside resort souvenir shop could be marketed to promote the game.

If I had the graphics talent I'd license the rights from FD and do this myself.

I think I would go for a small Cobra mk 3 on a stand. And a lunchbox, and maybe a pair of sandals.

In fact, pretty much anything! :D

B

Tshirts with more discrete logos, also Tshirts for specific systems found ingame, showing it's stars, planets etc.

I would pay up to £20 ish for one.

I think I would rather learn FDs intentions with regards to the Micro Transaction thread they posted ages ago before speculating and wishing for things in the shop - their ideas to monetise ED may make you all change your minds as to the contents you would like to see.

Speculation is half the fun! The soaring highs as ideas are put forward, the terrible lows as these ideas are brutally crushed! ;)

If we are talking about merch. I would be interested in the coasters and a set of tumblers to go with them. If they knew the interest was there, and I would imagine that estimating print and production runs is hellishly tricky, there is no reason they can't do MT and merch. and have two bites of the cherry.

As long as they are small, reasonable bites and not savage gouges. :)

)

People are not made of money and resources are finite.

If you knew in order to support FD you had to spend £20 in the MT shop per month your cup and plate idea would kind of become redundant. Same idea with the models - £30 is reasonable but it might have to be £400 to match the KS offerings (so as not to upset those that bought any )*

So far the ideas presented are good, but they are premature .. FD need to come forward and be transparent about their intentions before we can meaningfully suggest things for the shop.

My 2c of course

ETA:

*The other thing I notice about people in General is that if something does not affect them they become rather blahzay about things. Without wanting to sound like I am picking on you or Möbius I see you didn't object to his suggestion of £30 models, which were offered at inflated prices during the KS campaign, but voiced your opinion when I suggested they sell naming rights of stars for throwaway prices.

FD have a difficult task ahead of them and the golden rule of "you can't please everyone" springs to mind. For me I would be suggesting in this thread that the £30 suggestion for a model is fine (yes I bought a KS version - cut away anaconda to be precise) as is the naming of stars for £1, but until FD come out with their problem about MT and be honest about things my suggestions could be seen as upsetting.

You get my point now ?

I agree that they need to flesh out their ideas for the shop. But I hope that players don't feel they need to spend anything in the shop or via MT to support the game. It's great if they do but they shouldn't feel in any way beholden to FD to do this, as it was their idea to go down this route, not the players.

Okay then:

MT based:

Name stars
  • Non core £1 each. (There are 400 billion !)
  • Core £10

Name systems
  • Non core £5 each
  • Core £50 each

For both a certificate to authenticate your name rights £5 or £30 framed.

Different coloured laser beams ranging from £1 up to £500 for purple :D

Name change £10

Avatar change £5

Non MT:
More variety of TShirts - existing one with humongous logo is dreadful. £25
Möbius inspired cup (The black one) £20, £100 for set of 6
Mouse mat - couple of varieties of logo - £5 up to say £50 for a Razor style special non slip version
