Engineers Elite Dangerous Open is a very broken game

If a cobra III can take down a corvette by a player with a few hours of elite dangerous gameplay behind them then the game is broken. A wing of cobra III with elite combat commanders... yes. I have no problem with that.
If I do go into open then it's don't bother to fight. It's flight. And in a corvette you can do that. And try not to loose at interdiction. Fit a fast cooldown FSD to get away. That big ship is no match for those cobra III new pilots. Your shield will go down immediately with mines and your modules with engineered weapons. A five minute battle at the most.
And as soon as you jump to a new system, drop out to normal space. Log out. Login in then head to your destination in private or solo. Then log into open and do your thing in open then log out again and go back into private or solo.
<br>
Now would it not be nice if elite players can get elite hulls and elite shields? Rank should have it's privileges and that honest grind will be honestly rewarded too.

There are some silly "special effects" that can disable shields(even 100% shields), delay FSD etc.
I fly cheap ships in Open and Expensive ships in Solo.

So, you were in the Corvette?

Sounds a bit odd that you would lose to a new player in a Cobra in one.

You sure the Cobra wasn't piloted by someone with more experience than you think? Like someone that bought a second copy of the game.

or.. is it the full story that you are telling?

OP, why do you assume they're new? Rank doesn't mean anything in the game. Lots of PvP players ignore PvE combat stuff and as such have low rank.

This post is actually kind of encouraging - knowing that there are weapons that small ships can equip to affect the destruction of the larger, seemingly more capable ships.

That makes sense - torpedo bombers take down much larger vessels with specialized weaponry. Sounds like such is the case, in-game, with your post, OP.

OP, you're making the case for the mechanics, in my opinion. Just because you're flying a corvette doesn't mean that you're invincible. A small ship, given the right loadout and the right employment can be a serious threat to the unwary Big 3 commander. And the risk of flying one of those large ships is, should you come up against the wrong opponent, you stand to lose quite a bit of credits on the rebuy.

I have a big game hunter that uses PAs. Think I'll rig me one up that uses torps and mines.

"Although Akagi sustained only one direct hit (almost certainly dropped by Lieutenant Commander Best), it proved to be a fatal blow: the bomb struck the edge of the mid-ship deck elevator and penetrated to the upper hangar deck, where it exploded among the armed and fueled aircraft in the vicinity. Nagumo's chief of staff, Ryūnosuke Kusaka, recorded "a terrific fire ... bodies all over the place ...."

Out of curiosity, wouldn't turreted frag cannons with screening shell help to seriously reduce the effectiveness of such attacks?

A big expensive ship does never mean combat superiority.

That is what makes Elite somewhat unique... and i would have liked, if they had left the Fer de Lance priced at a 100.000.000 cr, as they first had, because it was always an object of prestige, flown only by the richest people in the previous versions of Elite.

Size, cost and endgame thinking... the curse of these days, regardless if in a game or a movie... moar moar moar... But as long as a wing of Eagles can take on a Anaconda, everything is fine.

Nothing, OP? Just came here to get it out of your system?

Newbs may be an incorrect assumption, the most fun I've had surprising gankers was shortly after my last reset.

The vast majority of Gankers aren't actually that good at combat. There are maybe a dozen that are, and I'm not sure how many of them still actually play.

Is this a parody?
Because when you fly a Corvette, then losing from a single noob Cobra player, as you describe, just isn't possible.
Show me the video, otherwise it did not happen.

Now I know you are joking.
Because that is an absurd proposal.
