Newcomer / Intro Elite Dangerous P.C settings setup guide from a noob! 0% CPU usage?

These are a few basic setup guidelines from my quest to get this game running smoothly without any jitter, please feel free to add any other tips to this list.

If your graphics card & monitor both have a 'DP'(display port) make sure to use it!

DVI-D connections can cause graphical glitches on the PC in games & HDMI cables can also be the possible cause of graphic & sound glitches.

Those paticular connectors were specifically designed for the 'consumer goods' market & are fine for TV & video, but are not good enough for gaming on the PC platform.

If like me you are using a PCI-e soundcard (which I had in the incorrect PCI-e slot) & you also have onboard sound, check you have disabled onboard sound in the bios & remove any specific software other than the driver for it.

Check in 'device manager' to see if there are any sound devices listed other than your preferred device & disable them.

Set your preferred sound device up by right clicking on the 'speaker icon' in your system tray, or go to sound options in 'control panel' & select your playback device & set it as default.

Highlight & select any other playback device in the list that is not going to play your sound & right click to disable it, there should only be the device left in the list that you will use, highlight & click 'configure'.

Set your stereo preferences, ok it & then click properties, click on the 'Advanced' tab & Uncheck the 'enable audio enhancements' box & click apply. Replicate this for your default recording devices.

Set power settings in 'Hardware & Sound' & choose 'High performance', click 'advanced settings' for more options & save.

You can also try disabling 'Aero Effects' on the desktop.

I found the video in the link below extremely helpful for fine tuning & I now have my CPU usage at 0% usage on the desktop, just like the video shows!

FYI: I have watched the processes & over time the CPU usage very occasionally spikes to a maximum of 9% with the windows processes that are running & drops back almost instantly to zero.

You will soon get to know the processes that should be running & the ones that are causing problems, simply search the name of the .exe process in ypour browswer to see what it is.

In 'Task Manager' expand the window & then click 'Resource Monitor' to watch the for the 'CPU' & 'Memory', overlay this over the 'Task Manager' window.

Processes I had to suspend:

WMIADAP.exe

http://www.exe-error-fixes.com/deal-high-cpu-usage-spoolsvexe-problem/ (I checked spoolsv.exe but a fresh install means I have nothing in the Printers folder in Windows & I have left this running).

You know you have gone too far turning things off, when Windows tells you it will shut down & restart. ;)

Graphic settings are of course individual but I am watching a thread for tips on settings for the Geforce GTX 970.

Fly safe!

Tiger Bill. (hoping to fly jitter free someday..)
