General / Off-Topic Elite Dangerous prize of £10k. Who remembers......

I'm guessing a fair few people here will be owners of the BBC Model B, back in the day.

Who remembers the "£1 if you complete it" prize for Castle quest?

Apart from Elite, that was probably my favorite game from my childhood. castle-quest1.gif

the hours i spent figuring out to set the bed on fire........

Ah those were the days.

These days it seems like the machines like TV have to fill in the blanks, this was the charm of the original Elite/Frontier games. Simple graphics make people use their imaginations its not all about polygons and bumped mapped textures its about immersing the player into the world and keeping them there for the duration. Elite had this, Frontier/FFE had this Elite:Dangerous has it to some degree.

For me the original Elite game was like a good book, playing my imagination filled the ships in I wasn't shooting a wireframe ship it was a pirate amongst the stars a deadly duel for survival. I have yet to feel the same in Elite:Dangerous it just feels like I'm going from a-b etc
