Newcomer / Intro Elite Dangerous PS4 not connected to internet

I'm trying to play Elite Dangerous on the PS4 but when I go to start the game it says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything else works fine (I wouldn't be able to create and post this otherwise) and already tried checking connection, power off then on but still no luck so I think ED is telling fibs! Not sure how to submit an official report so any tips?

Think it's a PS problem.

It says - when I looked.

Us oldies devised, designed and built the internet.
Then the media, staffed by children who use it send each other pictures of what they had for breakfast and watch cat videos, tell us we know nothing about IT.

If you Google "PSN status" you can check PSN directly, as you can from your console.
And it bears noting not all games need all of the functions of PSN to play.

That seems to be a major point of confusion.
But the outage was even mentioned on Forbes:

I don't have a console so I'm not sure, but can't Elite be played in Solo mode without PSN? I know Xbox can do that. All you need is some marginal connection to Elite servers. I may be completely wrong, of course.

No, not without the PSN, but you can play solo without PS+.

You must also be online for Xbox, ergo they have something similar for DRM.

Bring back the acoustic coupler. Make a move in noughts and crosses, recompile the code (read: make changes the BASIC program), use said coupler to send the program to the mainframe a mile away, wait two weeks for new program to be sent back with countermove by college eggheads. 50 goto 10.

If you do that I suggest not playing the game Global Thermo Nuclear War.
