Elite Dangerous Racing

Greetings Frontier Development and all commanders!

I have an idea to make Elite Dangerous better.

There are lot of unused terrains in game. We also have fast ships and tuning feature at engineers. What about to invole racing feature in game? I know there are few squadrons organize something like a role-play racing kinda "fly from starport A to starport B, measure your time and post it on a forum"... But I think about new in-game feature.

The idea is to built few race tracks on different planets. Different types of it - from tracks that looks like handbuilt, like a wide half pipe with a flat surface, side barriers and tunnels with illumination, to wild ones for a "death race" - with canyons already exist, cave tunnels with stalactites and stalagmites and different "hole in the wall" obstacles.

Weight classes

Make racing feature available for diffenent ship types. From fastest Eagles and Vipers to huge Condas and Clippers (equvalent to each other).

Training/Tournament mode

By default, race track is open for practicing, freeride. Arriving cmdrs can instatntly get into the track and fly for yourself non-stop circling to learn route and increase their skill side by side with other players, practice overtakes. But with no time syncronization, you just can see your own lap time. Collision and damage works as it does right now in game.
After few pilots register their participation in race, system notificates everyone on the track that tournament session begins in 10..15..30 minutes (more cmdrs - less time to start). Before the race starts, system warns and asks you to leave track.

Different race modes
- Classic race.
No comments. Like everywere in other games.

- Endurance race (or i don't know exact name)
No laps counting. Every minute (for example) last position racer is busted out of race. Try not to be last!

And so on...

Additional features (not necessary)

Rewarding system

Another one interesting thing is rewarding. For example, 1 mil.cr. is entry payment. For example, 13 participants.
1st place wins 9 mil.cr
2nd place wins 3 mil.cr
3rd place wins 1 mil.cr (no loosing)

(or smth. like that - values are variable)

Betting system (not-not necessary)
Another feature is to make races interesting not only for participants, but for viewers too.

Pros:
- Terrain development.
- Flight skill enhancement motivation
- New players activity spots.
- New interesting places to visit.
- New feature for small ships. Another reason to engineer them.
- Not interact with already exist features (it works localy).

It's just an idea. Discussion is welcome

And.. that famous and atmosheric race scene

I would love racing in elite!

I have had similar ideas. Imagine a race with 10+ pilots in an asteroid field, they have to get from point a to point b, 20+ Km, dodging asteroids along the way in lightweight fast vipers. Some may crash and burn along the way and only the best will win.

They could also add hardcore races where flight assist is off. Then only very few would make it to the end goal.

Make it so we don't have to physically travel to the races, but rather like a teleportation into a racing vessel of our choice? Rewards for winning a 30min race should be in the tens of millions. A 5 min rate should be a few million. This would need to be adapted though.

Also change the name of "CQC" to Arena Championship, introduce better tuning for SLF's(which could then be ported into the actual game), and also tuning for SRV's(giving us something a little more interesting to do with them), and add a Demolition Derby. Of course full size ships would be included too, although maybe broken down into size or ship-specific categories

Here an idea. If the player can Rent hovering Pylons and other building types. They get something 25 to 50 pylons With building are free. The player downloads the Planet map or doses it on the game. Has it approved by Frontier. They will set a day for races. It would last 2 maybe 4 weeks. Then the next race will start.

GARD Formula Racing is coming, watch this space...(and give us a couple more months to mark out some tracks, but plans are underway!!)
