I suspect it's a different Neil Armstrong - the one you're thinking of is dead, sadly. Is that the "real" Neil Armstrong, CFO that flew to the moon?

It also says Beta ending with 22nd November, so I hope on Friday we will get full disclosure about any futher releases between Beta and public release.
tl;dr I really hope Frontier have got this, I really do...
I think them saying Beta will end on 22nd November is a fairly typical reporter misquote. The newsletter said that sales of Beta will end on 22nd November, that's not the same thing. I would expect 2-4 more weeks of Beta before gamma release. The reason for this will be to prevent having to give out refunds to anyone who bought into the beta in the last couple of weeks before the 22nd.
Even though there is some ambiguity in the news release linked above (ie the beta is not really ending on nov 22nd, only the sale of beta access and "full public release" could mean the release of gamma) all signs point toward a release of the game in 2014 - especially when taking this post by Michael Brookes in account. So this discussion seems destined to become moot very soon.http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/market-news/market-news-detail/12138381.html

And I will be very happy when it does. Release should not come at expense of overall quality, but small bugs can be fixed afterwards and non-critical bite sized features rolled in later.
2 reasons behind 2014 release date, no doubt in my mind ^^
1) the most up-to-date client in house is now sufficiently complete according to DB/MB and they are very confident to deliver a stable build of it
2) the small matter of "a large proportion" of 7,5 mio GBP to be turned into revenue proper for 2014 calendar year
I guess they ignored the will of the fans.
Pretty sure they have investors and paying their own employees to worry about. Whatever the amount they raised via kickstarter and investment is clearly running out so they need to launch the game to fill the coffers and fund the rest of development. However, if they don't manage to add substantial content (serious lack of things to do in this game at the moment, still feels very alpha) and much needed features like system/faction events and alliances by the time it launches in December, not sure how successful they'll be in gaining more players.
