Elite: Dangerous Role Playing Game

It's official and we can finally talk about it!

If you have been waiting for an RPG based in the Elite Dangerous Galaxy then you do not have long to wait.

Here at Spidermind Games, we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on 16th January 2017 to Produce a Core Book as well as 4 Sourcebooks. As part of the campaign we will be making available a number of stretch goal titles, on top of the original 5 books. So far we have twelve stretch goal titles and some exciting news about who will be writing them, should these stretch goals be met.

Take a look at the full list of current titles being planned, over at edrpg.co.uk and if you don't want to wait until January to be able to play the RPG, then download the free standalone adventure 'The Worst Intentions' and let us know what you think. What do I need? 4 friends and a bunch of D10 dice.

Keep an eye on our developers blog page and back here for further updates.

Enjoy!

Oliver & Jon (Spidermind Games)

UPDATE 8th January 2017,

Busily preparing for the Kickstarter Campaign which launches on 16th January, we have been asking our lead designer to look at an RPG logo for the book covers. This is what he has come up with.

How different will it be to the Official ED_RPG that was an original ED Kickstarter Pledge?

Ours is an official RPG [smile]

Neither of us have played the other RPG, so cannot fairly comment on the differences. Does it have a playtest or alpha version people can play with? If it does then we would say 'get both and have fun comparing the two'.

You are unaware that there is an Official ED RPG being released?

No, we are aware that there is another official RPG and wish it well and every success. What we don't know is how their system plays as neither of us have had an opportunity to play it. We would love to though!

Star Wars has three seperate and completely different RPG's, now ED has two!

The different Star Wars games wern't released at the same time though

Interesting. Can you say anything more about the sourcebooks?

Edit: nm, saw the info on the website. Stretch goals will be a great source of lore, even for those who don't play the game. Hope they are met!

Re the sourcebooks, yes we have some news on these and will be letting everyone know in the next few days. Basically we have got some amazing and well known writers who have agreed to work on the sourcebooks.

You know when a puppy gets that excited it does a little ... well its like that!

Announcing Sourcebook Writers...

For those who have missed out on our recent interview on Lave Radio, we have some fantastic news with regards to our stretch goals.

During the Kickstarter campaign, there will be a growing list of technical and lore sourcebooks which will be unlocked, depending on the total amount pledged.

We are delighted, therefore, to announce that Allen Stroud and Mike Brookes have agreed to come on board as writers for the Sourcebooks.

Allen Stroud, a distinguished, designer, academic and author of novels such as Lave Revolution has agreed to write the Federation, Alliance & Old Worlds and Corporate Sourcebooks. All three titles will be a must read for anyone interested in the history of these great powers, both financial and political.

Mike Brookes, Exec producer and author of Elite: Legacy amongst many excellent titles, has agreed to provide us with a superb insight into all that the Empire has to offer in the Imperial Sourcebook.

We are delighted to welcome them both on the team and are crossing just about everything, hoping that these stretch goals are met. We are in for a real treat if they are met.

This is really exciting news. The lack of technical constraints in the RPG means that we'll be able to have the sort of getting up, walking about, boarding ships and exploring Earthlike planet adventures that won't be coming to the computer game for a few years more. The inclusion of Sourcebooks that fill in some of the blanks and provide us with an understanding of how the galaxy works - all those little details you don't see when you're piloting your spacecraft - will help to bring the galaxy to life and will help improve the computer game for those of us who like to imagine the "living, breathing universe" that the game implies. And the authors of the Sourcebooks know an awful lot about the lore and about the future development of the Elite: Dangerous galaxy.

The downloadable demo of this RPG has been produced to a high standard, and makes me confident that the finished product is going to be worth having - even if you're not a frequent RPG player (I'm not). The proposed pricing is a bit scary, but it presumably reflects the cost of production of decent quality hard-copy books.

Personal Combat - New post on the EDRPG dev blog

If you haven't seen it yet, we have posted the first of several 'Crunch Friday' articles on the Dev Blog on our website

This week, the Games author, Oliver, has written about the personal combat rules and why opting for the gun might not be the only way to win.

Each week, on a Friday we will publish a post about an aspect of the game rules which will feature in the Core Manual. I shall keep this page updated as new posts arrive
