Elite Dangerous | Server Maintenance 5 December 2024

for those who can connect are you playing on legacy?
Nope, EDO only here, been connecting fine since the server came back on yesterday.
Taken a couple of minutes ago...

Of course, it is easier to blame FD isn't it?

how can FDev screw up a simple maintenance that bad?
the game still wont connect to server but seems some of you can but things dont work properly.

i am super confuse when some said there is client update when I never got any and it never does for a maintenance.
Looking at the version number on your screenshot it looks like you're running the latest version.

Maybe first try rebooting your PC and Router then try connecting again. If that doesn't work contact Support.

I had this issue a couple of weeks ago. It's quite likely restarting your router will fix it. Once you have rebooted your router try hitting "Continue" then waiting a couple of minutes for the greyed out choices to turn orange.

If it keeps happening you can work around the router issue permanently you can change your ED connection to IPv6 and also set the "Port override for IPv6." You can use any of the numbers, but I use 5111 so you can be confident that one will work.

What's happening here is there are lots of autoconfig features in the standard and Elite Dangerous tries to use those features, but a lot of retail-grade routers are just not very good on these standards so they will just eventually fail and then you have to reboot to unstick them. The workaround I suggested uses the simplest version of the lowest number of standards.

There is no client update. FDev never said there was a client update. I don't know why there is a weird argument about client updates in this thread, I think it is Because Forum.

Hundreds of millions dead in Sol - fact. Federation President and Cabinet do a runner, leaving citizens to die - fact. The Federation still paints station assets Red, knowing this antagonises Thargoids who see it as anger or a sign of attack - fact. Question - does the Federation even care about humanity, knowing they are directly responsible for the destruction of the birthplace of humanity?

My character hasn’t been calling them the “Evil Galactic Federation” all these years for nothing.

I'd assumed most of the 20 billion inhabitants would be goners, so the report that only hundreds of millions are dead is actually an upbeat news story.

thanks both, restarted PC and router didn't help, uninstalled steam version and installed frontier launcher didn't help too, but changing to IPv6 fixed it and i am able to connect again!

Yeah it's possible that your ISP was doing some dodgy stuff with IPV4 NAT that wasn't allowing you to get a direct connection, but IPV6 means you have your own end point IP address rather than a NAT'd connection, good going.

To all those which criticize the devs for the unfixed bugs: It's not the devs. They do what they are paid for.

Things like this are a management-decision, not a dev-decision.
Software-development folk do mean different things by "the devs" and "the supplier of the product".
However, nearly everyone on the forum treats "devs" as being synonymous and interchangeable with "FD" ;)

I'm pretty sure though that the vast majority of the players here understand that it's not the actual game devs who are calling the priorities and preventing bug-fixing from being at the top of the list (but instead the people whose job it is to keep the bills paid and the shareholders happy).

Wouldn't be to sure of that.

I do recall quite a few years back when we had, due to forum led demands, a set of updates purely for bug fixing, the forum demanded it! What do you think immediately happened when the bug fix updates came out? The forum was outraged that they were putting out updates with no new content, FDEV can't win no matter what they do, and the devs are stuck between the forums and the FDEV board, oh dear.

since you guys are so helpful, please see if anyone could help solve this major road block for me right now.

when I am upgrading any of my gear or gun at vendor with enough material, i always get into this error message and get kick out from vendor screen. I dont have any bounty, notoriety, or any irregular/stolen/mission items.
  • Check for Stolen Items: Sometimes, having stolen items in your inventory can cause this error. Try removing any items that might be flagged as stolen1.
  • Relog or Restart: Log out of the game and restart it, then try upgrading again.
  • Reduce Packet Size (MTU): Some players have found success by reducing their Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) settings. You can do this by opening a command prompt as an administrator and running a specific command2.
  • Check Frontier Forums: Visit the Frontier Forums for any updates or fixes from the developers. Other players might have shared solutions that worked for them1.

the only "solution" i found is out of my reach as all my friends all quit and went to void crew so prefer to stick to solo solution, if there is one that is...

I don't have any solutions, but did you notice the apparent workaround listed in the Reddit post you linked? (Dropping items that don't have "OwnerID:0" in the JSON file, and optionally having someone pick them up, drop them, and then you can retrieve them.)
Wouldn't be to sure of that.

Not sure we're talking about the same thing here. It's just terminology - software "devs" vs "management".
To muddy the waters more effectively, the FD team are all basically labelled as "devs" when they post here due to the forum add-on that labels any staff post as a "Dev post". They are not all software developers though ;) (E.g., no disrespect to Paul, who created this thread, but I don't think he's one of the coders for the game.)

probably not the fix that you are after but Prospectors are not hitting ship and exploding at higher speeds now, have tried firing prospectors at speeds up to 182 from my T9 with no problems.
Probably depends on the ship - I lost a few from my Krait II at lower speeds than that yesterday.
