Ok, this is a bit (ok, a lot) out of my technical level. But...
Network issues seem to be troublesome for many people and for different reasons, so my suggestion is that Frontier release a shared server edition of Elite Dangerous. This wouldn't be the full deal, but a 'cut down' server that still remains connected to the main server but handles a lot of the local server traffic therefore streamlining the stuff that goes to the main server. This way there can be a distributed server network that can handle a greater resolution of server ticks whilst providing the normal, or a reduced tick rate to the main server. Another thought would be if this could increase the capacity of players per instance, and/or possibly dynamically allocate resources when resolving generating or entering an existing instance.
Doable or an example of Dunning Kruger?
