Elite: Dangerous sounds amazing!

I was actually surprised by how much I like the sound effects. Usually, I won't even mention them when talking about a game, but I always have to when telling someone about ED.

How it sounds depends on many factors, your sound card, speakers, head phones, amps, etc. it has sound, that much is true, I personally turn the sound off as I find it annoying and unrealistic.

Lmao really? What sound in space is realistic?

The sound of the Viper is the sexiest thing everrrrrrrr

I like all the sounds except the music. It's okay, just doesn't inspire me enough to forego listening to my own music in the background. The chatty VI is possibly a tad annoying, but at least you can disable her for certain functions now. :)

Man. I've connected some old home cinema speakers I've found, and opened Elite as a Test. Even though it doesn't work right (the speakers set I mean), when I decided to boost volume up and then go to station's surface from hangar... man... The feel was unexplainably epic.

On side note, I dislike Adder engine sound. But something different for everyone I guess.

The sidewinder sounds like the space equivalent of a 4 cylinder engine ... when you push it you can really hear it strain and there's that momentary worry about whether a belt will snap and the whole engine will bust through the hood

The SFX department is definitely where Elite shines the most.
Unfortunately, SFX are something that does not receive enough attention in video games. This trend seems to change towards the better but if you read game reviews, all they talk about is gameplay, graphics and - if really outstandingly done - music.
Sounds are rarely mentioned, which is a shame cause they definitely make or break many games.

Alien Isolation is a perfect example.
The sounds are the best, in quality and variety, I have ever heard in a video game and they definitely make the game as good as it is. With crappy sounds, all the tension, horror and terror would not come across, you couldn't "feel" it.

Similar case in Elite. A Viper passing by at high speed grants you eargasms with a good sound system or headphones.

Well done, devs, well done!

Yes my Home theatre has now been hijacked for ED. High end speakers, subwoofers and amp. Early on I had the sound up so loud that when I went through the slot in the station, the room would shake. It was awesome until a picture fell off the wall and broke the glass frame. I have toned it back now, but there are so many wonderful little subtle noises in there that you can only pick up on a good system. If you are just using standard pc speakers you miss out on so much of the subtle stuff. Good high end headphones also help.

All the engine sounds are incredible, but I was hopelessly in love with my ASP until I met my Python...

(insert joke here)

+1 I second the fact that the sound design in the game is amazing, certainly the sound effects are superb. Could probably do with slightly better music though I don't like that much myself.

The sound of the Viper is truly epic. The most impressive effect for me so far is the sound of a ship exploding close by in headphones. There is a definite detonation as the hull bursts, timed perfectly with the graphic effect. The rest of the music I can take or leave, but the opening music is hypnotic.

My favourite noise in the game is the one when you complete a D-Scan. Crank up the bass on your subwoofer and feel the blast! :D

Yes the ED sound team is absolutely the shining diamond in this game. They are space Jesus in 7.1 surround sound :D
