Elite Dangerous : Star Wars

Sounds lame to me, for the simple reason that Star Wars is already everywhere. It's the Starbucks of Science Fiction.

Eh? Aren't these the Starbucks of Science Fiction:

I wonder how many Star Wars Movie there are in 1000 Years^^

Would even make sense for the Lore, kinda. Star Wars is part of the History after all and people who build stuff from Movies will always exist :D

With all the anticipation for a 'Colossal' announcement next week , and everybody pretty convinced it's PL's , ive seen a few arguments suggesting it's 'not a big enough' announcement for gamers not already playing. PL's would maybe not be big enough to lure more to the game are aren't already on board.

And this weird thought popped into my head.......ED:Star Wars

The timing would fit with this years film
It would certainly be big enough to grab some big headlines
There is no 'space play' in the new Battlefront game ( maybe that licence was already 'taken' ;-) )

hmmmmmm......

Will never happen.... for millions of reasons.

I always wanted a Star Wars game in an open galaxy like ED's.
I never understood why they never made such a game.
I believe it would have been the best selling game ever created in the entire universe and the next.
Virtually everybody knows how the Star Wars universe works, and how the ships look.
The most important fluff is known by everybody.
For most of us it would be like coming home.

Imagine being pulled in by a huge Star Destroyer, or imagine smuggling weapons for the Huts on Nar Shadaa.
Imagine flying to Cloud City, landing in Mos Eisley etc. etc. etc.
Wouldn't that be a dream come true?

Instead of a game like that we got decades of childish garbage from Lucas Arts and co.
Not even a modernized X-Wing or Tie Fighter game was considered.

I even stopped playing SWTOR because it lacked such an open galaxy environment for my gunslinger/scoundrel/smuggler to explore. If they'd only included something like Elite (heck, even something like Freelancer) it would have been truly epic. I'm inclined to agree that Elite: Dangerous, the Star Wars edition isn't likely to surface, but it would be intriguing if Lucasarts/Bioware/EA were to approach Frontier to have them use their Elite experience to develop something similar for SWTOR ......... just so long as it didn't detract from Elite: Dangerous development lol.

On a side note, I reckon CQC is going to be streets ahead of SWTOR's starfighter gameplay.

I dunno about that. In the older games I saw a LOT of tribute to Isaac Asimov's Foundation series though. Also Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, LOTS of that.

This one seems less... whimsical. Unfortunately. Honestly, FFE had such a freewheeling feel to it from all those wacko RIG articles; hearing references to psychohistory, and the number 42... ED is sooooo straitlaced.

Come on FD, give us some more smack! :)
I've seen some interviews where Braben expresses his captivation with Star Wars' world building. I think there are subtle cues in the music and the spaceship sounds.

Maybe. Anaconda and Python design could've come right out of Star Wars. Anaconda=Venator (at least from the top), and the Python could be the halfway-house between the Jedi Starfighter and Imperial Star Destroyer.
Yeah, some of the ships seem to have a Star Wars vibe going.
