Elite: Dangerous Steam Discussions?!

Sweet mercy... Have you guys read much of any of the threads over there? I'm literally crying, I've been laughing so hard, blabbering like an idiot while trying to read some of the posts out to my wife. :D

If you have the chance, and need a little comedic relief, I highly recommend it. Just scroll through and cherry pick some of the more... ambitious titles at your leisure.

Cheers.

...

After reading a bunch of the comments on this thread, it has come to my attention that people are under the misconception that this thread is about "making fun of noobs on Steam," which isn't the case. If you'd like to do more than just point and laugh or accuse people of being elitists, feel free to lend a hand by helping to inform and clarify things for our new and old fellow Commanders on Steam. :)

And now, a word from our sponsor™...

If you all want to spare the time, there are a TON of new commanders that came online this past week/weekend via Steam/Steamcommunity.com. Please do lend a helping hand to those over there that need assistance. Never know the next time that you'll see them in space...

I click on the link thinking hmm this looks interestingly. The first thing I see is a dissolution named why should I upgrade thrusters after a couple scroll I find one about someone who was getting killed by npcs but though they were cmdrs you have just made my day +1 to you.

I... I just can't even...

Did you see the one about the guy asking for aliens in the game? The guy with the request states the game is really dull and boring with nothing to do so suggests FD add aliens just like that. There is one disagreeing since they like their galaxy realistic and apparently aliens don't make sense. One counters with Thargoids are coming, the other doesn't believe they are real, someone links to the wiki page and then Thargoids get compared to the Loch Ness Monster.

I can't decide if I should fall out of my chair laughing or worry about the fate of humanity.

To be honest some of these are legitimate question new player might wonder about. But I must agree that since sale steam forums are basically ruined. Can't put it any other way.

Must be missing something… why's that funny? It's a sci-fi game, a genre which often has aliens. It has a map large enough that statistically, it wouldn't be surprising to find intelligent life within that range in real life. And to top it all off, it's in a game world that explicitly does have aliens and the developers say they will be in the game. Were you being sarcastic and I'm missing it?

I edited my comment to add a little bit context. It's not the suggestion, it's the thread itself :) So funny :D

I intentionally avoid them because I know if I read them I'll feel compelled to correct all the nonsense.

Thanks for that. Now I've had to post there...

I try to invite as much as possible to the wonderful ED forums overhere!

Not sure if sarcastic ;)

I might just do that. I've posted twice there and shut it down. There are members there who know their stuff. They're just out numbered. I spend enough time on here. I'll leave them to fight it out.

Since they aren't supporting the steam forums much Frontier needs to put a sticky at the top of the main thread with links to here and support etc.. They've put some in and its in the side panel and people aren't seeing them.

Whats happening at the minute is the community is offering support on the steam forums, which is nice of everyone but I feel the new traffic should be directed here.

Semi , and yeah read some post from you overthere +1 for the good "fight"

Yep, there's a lot of amusing numptiness in those Steam threads but it does also demonstrate just how lacking in official information ED is for new players.

Those of us who've been around these forums for ever take it in our stride, but the "no hand holding" argument only goes so far. This game has a ridiculous learning curve if you've never played an Elite game before. It's not just steep, it's covered in oil and has spike pits at the bottom.

There are thirteen pages of keybinds in the control options for heaven's sake. Unless they've come from the world of flight simulation this is an almost overwhelming number of options for a new player, especially when most of the controls relate to functions that only become meaningful once you start to get a full handle on the game's mechanics, which can take months of play and lots of unexpected deaths.

Of course it's no excuse for entitled whining or throwing a mantrum, but then we also have plenty of that here too.

well yeah , but most of us been there too like yous said. Like the controls sucks argument , in my mind first thing you do is setup controls(yes it takes 15min whoehoe!), nowdays tey have to be perfect when you buy a game? how can that be... ah well , gamers today
