Is it possible to play the test server or is it closed to a select few?

It's always closed apart from beta backers afaik...which will eventually bite frontier in the bum as the numbers of them playing decrease (and they will eventually) , hopefully before then they will open it to more players.

There is no "Grind" in a Vulture. It's my Fun Machine.

The test servers are only open while beta testing a new version. During the 1.2 beta, there were more than enough players who wanted to test out the new ships and the wings mechanic. I think FD had more bug reports and feedback than they could handle in a week. So I really would not hold my breath on numbers of beta players becoming critically low anytime soon.

Also, not every beta had the prices of all ships reduced to 100cr. Sometimes they just reduce the prices of specific ships/items they want tested. So even if you were to acquire beta access, there is no guarantee that you could test drive the Anaconda when the next beta opens.
