Horizons Elite Dangerous: The Faux MMO

PLEASE READ THIS ALL THE WAY
You took away single player and said we were getting an MMO. Ok sounds fine.

What we got:
No Clans,Guilds,Corps,Bands, ect ect ect. (Complete lack of social interaction)(Wings dont count as they are hard to get going if you dont have friends with the game)
No Trading with other players (Cant pay a pilot to go out and use prospector and call you when he finds good stuff)

I LOVE THIS GAME... Im currently gringing the Fed Corvette but its hard to get others to play a "MMO" When you lack everything other than the bare minimum.

Suggestions
Form player clan/fleet and align with a faction, gain access to special ships and discounts
PVP events that are only players with bare minimum ai ships (assault defend colony or crippled capital ship)

Hi you seem to be mixing Elite up with some other game. Yes it's an MMO.
But, it's also an arcade/nostalgia/simulator/RPG and space-trucking game (probably a few more genre's I missed actually). Everyone plays for different reasons and that's what makes it such a good and bad game. :p

We have factions, minor factions and player groups. Yes the in-game functionality is lacking but they exist and are active. Watch Educating Ed on youtube to see examples and find out what they do or search the forums here: One such group is currently over 1000 Players strong at the other side of the galaxy (google "distant worlds").

There have been many many many threads about all you suggest. Trading with other players exists but is carefully limited at the moment (in my opinion rightly so, many online games have been plagued by gold farmers etc). Thats got a 20+ page discussion somewhere I won't go into right now.

I agree with your clan/fleet idea provided there is NO access to special ships and discounts. Being in a group should have no benefits like that since it forces social interaction for players to feel equal. Look at other large MMO's, anyone lacking time investment in the game can't get into a good clan because of irregular and low game-hours. Eventually after a year or so only the really hardcore players remain and the general life of the MMO is gone.
To be honest I actually disagree with the whole MMO thing for Elite, would prefer to be a man and his ship type game. Since it's gone that way I'm not saying that friends/wings/social features are bad because I can look past and see why they are there. But I play from a single player perspective 95%+ of the time meaning I'd be rather annoyed if they put in something like this.

Yes, pvp events. Groups already run them on their own, and there is organised Arena matches by the developers.

It's not really solo when other players can influence Power Play and the BGS. Sure, you don't ever get instanced with them, but nonetheless, they're still there.

Yes it is still solo. You are playing alone = solo. Being connected to the BGS has nothing to do with making it not solo.

You need to read more dev posts, a proper group system is on the way, I believe it is slated for 2.2

There's players in open that can influence it that you don't get instanced with too (in fact, almost ALL of them), what's the difference?

Seconded, it has been requested a lot. Frontier must add those features to make it a real MMO. Elite Dangerous is a lonely game with very limited multiplayer.

1) Powerplay
2) Join Adle's Armada for all the PvP you can shake a Sidewinder at

If you have a solo game the computer does a lot of stuff. If you invade a place it does not simply not do anything. It act acordingly to counter your moves. Otherwice it whoud not be funny.

If humans acts instead of the computer, its sort of the same thing. They react to your actions. If they are more they win ground. Thats a even more realistic game than a simple solo computer game.

In life it not always goes our way. I find that level of real workings in elite make me enjoy it more. Becouse its biting back some times. You make mistakes but you have no saved games you can take up, erasing those mistakes. You have to live whit it and learn and adopt.

You mean you want FD to lock certain ships behind a multi player requirement?
That is a horrible, horrible idea.

As a soloist (even in open) I feel punished enough for not having an offline option, or for Wings, multicrew and CQC being of no use to me at all.

I understand why the off-line option is off the table for now. I accept FD's reasoning.
But I sure could use the option to wing up with NPC or have NPC crew members.

I'm sure we would get NPC crew and wings if FD had enough confidence in their AI but unfortunately they apparently don't yet. Otherwise, I see no reason why that wouldn't be a possibility. Even a wing of 2 would benefit from two more members, even if just as cannon fodder until the commanders either escape or get the situation under control.

I don't know why winging up with npc is not in yet, but it should be a big, big priority and so should be npc crew members.

I hope FD realizes that a lot of soloists like me play this game.
It really is a big thing for me that I am not able to make use of wings and will not be able to have crew members.
And of course this is also related to the fact that the game has no escort missions yet.

I sure hope they are working on this stuff. I'd love to hire a wingman or I would love to do missions in which I need to protect a merchant , or military missions to escort an imperial warship.

I love Horizons for the planetary landings, but one of the biggest additions in this season is the multicrew thing.
And it is totally useless to me!
Just like the two biggest additions in Season 1 (Wings and CQC) were useless to me too.

I feel much the same way too.

S'funny, all these things you complain about are things that we always knew weren't gonna be in it, and things a lot of us are glad to be without. Thank god ed's NOT the same as every other mmo. Them NOT being there is part of the reason a lot of us bought it.

Yep, if Elite did everything that was expected we'd still be stuck with 3 lives and a score.

This is not an MMOG, it's a MOG with random matching. Doesn't even have a lobby like MOGs for ages.

Don't give an orc's poot about the BGS. An MMOG has the things OP mentions we don't have. Plus the whole massive thing implies getting potentially hundreds of players involved at once. Hell, Ye Olde EverCracke used to get 300+ in a single zone whenever a GM decided to run around dressed as one of the gods (it was laggy as hell on a 28k dialup but it happened!)

Play the Game you've got. This is not some other game.
If you want it to have the things you have seen in other games and you (all) have your way, then there will be no diversity.
Everything will be a clone of every other thing.
I think it would be better if this Game developed in its own way; and then the things it does have will work better and better, in time.

Even if the game had all the stuff that he mentioned, you could still play the game your own way and not join any of those groups.
