Elite dangerous the movie.. Comming soon?

Could work. The script would need to work around the many logical short-comings of the Elite game mechanics, because even with a huge dose of suspension of disbelief the average viewer would flee from a 1:1 depiction. But just as Elite is no simulation of space flight by any means, that theoretical movie wouldn't need to be that, too. If you put in some major points, like:
  • Thargoid-based plot
  • Federation, Empire, Alliance
  • some iconic ships (Cobra, Sidewinder, Anaconda), or better as many as possible of the current set
  • dog-fight-esque combat scenes
  • career paths (Combat/Trading/Exploring)
  • similar overall styling
...you could maybe flesh out a decent enough B-Movie. If it holds up to the trashiness of Wing Commander, I'd be impressed.

I'd watch a series of unconnected short stories based in the ED universe, I'm not sure the lore is filled out enough to have it stand up to scrutiny though. If the stories were good enough it'd gain a cult following (much like the game).

I'd watch it ;)

Scifi is already a niche market. I can't really see a niche IP succeeding in a niche market. The writing would have to be top notch.

Not what you had in mind I expect but these were (and still are) absolutely incredible!

Or watch the whole lot in a single 3hr 50min supercut.

Movie?
I'd love an animated series, using the exact ingame designs and gfx.
They'd need some really good script writers to make the stories and a good animation studio plus a distribution platform to make it happen - but i think it could be successful

It could work best as a TV series of independent small stories, each episode depicting struggles and life of a different character while the lead-up to and opening of the thargoid war is playing out in the background. Best if it were animated, classic 2D would work well I think.
A few ideas for stories:
  • A Federal agent investigating Far God Cult while dealing with doubts about official narrative and a moral dilemma
  • A hauler paid well to transport something strange they're not supposed to ask questions about
  • A lab technician's day at Salvation's Azimuth
  • An Imperial military officer with Marlinist sympathies
  • A dockworker in a thargoid alert system
  • An extremely experienced and well-known explorer hired for a really handsome amount of money (and boatload of NDA-s) by some shadowy org to lead an expedition to a non-disclosed destination which turns out to be Cone sector

Opening scene:

Brodie Steele, flannel clad space pioneer and purveyor of the Smokey Mustache Bar and Lounge in Ceos has set course for a distant outpost in his Krait Phantom.

Cut to orange HUD waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (this goes on for 47minutes)

Brodie arrives at the outpost:

Brodie: "hey Mike, I want to buy 50 Lavian brandy units"
Mike: "Sorry Brodie, we only have 2"
Brodie: "But the market data shows 50"
Mike: "We have 2"

Brodie buys the 2 and makes his way to the bar

Bartender: "How can I help you, do you have something to sell? If you have the goods, I have the credits"
Brodie: "I just want a beer"
Bartender: "We don't sell drinks"
Brodie: "What do you sell?"
Bartender: "We don't sell anything, we either trade materials or we buy stuff"

Brodie, feeling dejected, makes his way to the cartography office to sell his exploration data
Brodie: "Hey Sally, I have data to sell"
Sally: "You'll need to go back to your ship, we don't deal in cartography inside the station"
Brodie: "but I just sold some exobiology stuff right across the hall"
Sally: "Thanks commander"

Brodie fed up by now, makes his way back down the concourse to the elevator when he's approached
Random dude: "Hey, you know how to use a gun?"
Brodie: "sure, what you got?"
Random dude: "Well, there's this crashed something on a planet that I need the microchip from"
Brodie: "Sounds easy, what are you offering?"
Random dude: "You can have 23 cents, or I'll friend you on facebook, or you can have me having more influence here"
Brodie: "I'll need a better offer"
Random dude: "Take it or leave it"
Brodie: "I'll leave it"
Random dude: "You won't find this offer anywhere else"

Brodie makes it to the elevator, gets back to his ship with 2 Lavian brandy units, notices there's an additional 2 for sale at the market

Brodie: "I'll take those two units as well"

Brodie high wakes to another system then high wakes again back to his original system to get to his base more quickly

Brodie: "man that feels like an exploit, if this wasn't real life"

Credits (it's always about the credits)

Isn't that what they told George Lucas?
That's SciFantasy. Where are my magic swords and space wizards in Elite? And do I have to mention the prequels and the sequels. ;)

This is a more likely possibility. Here's an episode outline. "Ground Hog Day" - Commander wakes up to the same mission every time they die, but for some reason they keep accumulating goods and knowledge each time. ;)

"Tales from the Frontier" has a nice ring to it ... ;)

a movie based on an ip that is controlled by a company that alienated it's own book authors that paid for the privilege and isn't even popular enough in the studio to be the flagship despite the studio being founded around it.

i don't see a movie there. if you threw out any of the lore from the game, went with stuff from the books and had some authors create a story within that universe, maybe you would have something. but it would have to be a TV series because there isn't enough time in a movie to explain the ip since nobody is going to know what elite is about. it's niche within a niche. wing commander was a much more popular ip and that couldn't make a successful jump to a movie ( though the games were movies in of themselves, are good ones at that)

I'd think an elite based anime series would be the way to go.

The Jameson mycoid virus story would translate well in a Rogue One type of way IMO. It could be something that could be a finale for the already mentioned episodic series that deals with life in and outside the bubble that culminates as an overarching storyline. The Mandalorian would be a good template to work from as far as tone for the episodes that track the ascension of CMDR Jameson from being a Han Solo type of character who catches the eyes of those in power trying to figure out how to hand the growing Thargoid menace, this angle could also allow for some intrigue between the Feds, Imperials & The Alliance.

This could work out for Elite and Frontier in a big way if handled correctly, they could 'product place' things that are to come up in the future into the film as easter eggs for the game, if done right it could also be a series of films im sure that loads of ED players would want to see if and if the script is right could engage a LOT more to come into the Elite universe to explore the universe that the film is set in :).

Take into account the price of film tickets these days, the base game and expansions isnt a long stretch to keep someone in the universe :)
