Elite Dangerous: The TV Show

Three major superpowers fighting for control.

Their sub-faction minions fighting for power, influence and control within their own star systems.

A galaxy full of wonders, dangers, and discoveries, in unexplored space.

Some of those discoveries will change humanity.

Some could end it forever.

And in that galaxy, we have our hero.

He had no idea how he and his friends would change the galaxy.

Or how the galaxy would change him.

I'd love it if, one day, ED was made into a TV Show. Yeah, it wouldn't be cheap to make, I have no idea if long-term, this is on Frontier's 'would be nice' road map, and yeah, I'm probably dreaming, but, the basic template for a story is there, the rising of video streaming increases the chances of distribution (and lowers of the cost of doing so compared to traditional broadcasting), and the possibilities for storylines would be endless.

With decent episodes.

And missions. :p

So....what's Ben Browder doing these days? :)

Well if they need a writer/show runner, contact JMS and see if he'll do a nice 5 season story arc for us ;)

You can watch The Expanse from syfy channel or maybe stream it some where. It is new show but I read the books couple of years ago and although the setting is within the Solar System to start off, but it is rich with factions and wars. I watched the first 4 and they were good.

Loved B5. Not as much as DS9 mind you ;), but yeah, a big arched storyline would be great. By Season 3 whose pesky Shad-I mean, Thargoids would show up, to reshape the galaxy into their design.

B5, DS9, TNG. nBSG, Firefly....even Voyager....if its set in space I'll love it which is probably why I've played this game since E3. If the top grade writers like JMS are unavailable (which is likely), I'm sure there are some TV decent writers out there that could do a good job, and shows like The Expanse, nBSG, Dark Matter and KillJoys prove that a potential audience is out there for some decent space sci-fi TV. I'd be happy for a 6 episode season on YouTube or Netflix, always leave your audience wanting more.

I've done some creative writing myself. I'm no JMS but wouldn't mind a shot. :D

I've heard good things about The Expanse, will watch that soon. Nice to see Syfy getting back to its roots. Defiance was good too, I think in that case the show came first and the video game after?

That would be cool. Especially if they could take clips form us in-game and weave it in here and there. Maybe a clip from Cillit-Bang or Vindicator Jones. :)

Show and video game actually debuted alongside each other, believe it or not, with some events in the show tied to outcomes of events in the game (there was a plague or something during Season 2, and the players had to run the game event enough to "cure" it in the show). Too bad Syfy ditched it after this most recent season.

Dear BBC - This is what I want my license fee to be spent on. Not more evenings of "The One Show"

I've run out of rep to give you again today...they really need to fix that.

OK, here's my character pitch: :D

Lead character would be a smuggler, and not a very good one. He'll drop his cargo at the first sign of an Imperial Navy Clipper before you can say "Scan Detected", which explains why after all these years, he still has his Cobra MkIII while his friends are key players in criminal syndicates and flying a different Cutter every weekday. But that's OK, because this guy loves his ship. He's distrustful of governments and thinks they get in a man's way and his life. He has major issues with the Empire - his mother's trader ship disappeared years earlier on the border of Imperial space - and he isn't much of a Federation fan either. He tolerates the Alliance, barely. He has rules, he has morals. Every time he plans to go to Robigo ("Its a magical place") something or one gets in the way.

Then there's the female Federation Ambassador. She's loyal to the Federation, smart, clever. She's worked hard to get the life and career she has and doesn't suffer fools gladly. Her loyalty to the Federation doesn't blind her to the flaws within it, and that is how she gets pulled into some Federation plot which leads to her being framed for the murder of a high-ranking politician. She's now on the run from the government she's so faithfully served, the government which now wants her dead. But why? She's the Princess Leia to the lead's character's Han Solo, and the two of them are very much equals.

Then there's the Imperial Slave Trader. A true patriot. He was rich. Basking in money, but, the credits and ships he's gathered throughout the years were taken from him. Why? And, how does he know so much about the inner workings of the Imperial Senate? How does he have access to Imperial Navy and border codes? Who the heck is this guy? What does he want and who does he serve? The Empire? Perhaps. Himself? Definitely. This guy wants more than the credits he's lost. His true motivations are a mystery, his goals unclear, and if achieving them means he has to betray everyone else on the ship, he'll do it in a heartbeat.

Finally, there's Mr Explorer, just back from a 12 month trip. He has a knowledge of the universe and potential resources in it which is unmatched by many humans. He has seen wonders to make you weep for joy, terrors which would give you nightmares and something happened to him on his trip. He's doesn't talk much about it. He has possession of an alien device which no human possesses, or should possess. What does it do? And oh yeah, why do the Alliance list this guy as being dead 5 years ago?

These four characters would get thrown together, trying to survive, stay alive and make a life for themselves, hoping to return to the lives they once had, or perhaps to better lives elsewhere. The galaxy will effect them but they could effect the galaxy even more.

On paper the lot of them are "Mostly Harmless" but in reality they are "Elite".....when they work together that is.

^^^^ If I can knock that together in an hour imagine what a half-decent writer could do. :)
