Elite Dangerous | Titan Presence In Sol

Tried to find a coop instance in Open last night in Sol, and found about a bajillion scout interdictions. I can't believe the talk about ganking given the AX interdictions.

Every station-based instance I popped into had hydras. I have a reasonably engineered Chieftain (G5DD, G5HRM, G5TVbl, G5 SCO,G5 Hull, with the enhanced AX MCs, enhanced AX missiles etc., but was faced with a lot of in system chat that stated AXI pg instances only wanted folks that had done the mat grind to unlock the Ram Tah Guardian module protection paint. I assume this is not true.

Tonight I'll hit the AXI Discord and try to get into an instance.

Your Chieftain sounds fine and if something doesn't work well you can always change it, come and join the fun

I get you dude.. And thanks..
A challenge is good, but it should never be the case that you can't play a game without having to use 3rd party websites/forums/tools.

I have ED copilot on.. I don't know if that safe from a security point of view, as is the case for the dozens of other add ons people have had to produce to help them and others use on their PCs.
Fdev should bite the bullet and buy the best of these 3rd party extensions and introduce them into the game. This would also give the people that put all the effort into them a little credit/financial payback.

Sometimes when you have your creation and you made it a certain way its hard to change your concept when others outside looking in can help do that to make it better/more enjoyable.

Im not saying dumb it down and making it a push over to do everything, but there are so many different points that you need bring together in Elite, even if its just like engineering something, or even getting engineers open and one thing leads to another and you need to spend a month to do something that is over in a couple of weeks.

Someone that's just come on and bought the game today may want to fight in SOL. They will be instantly put off the game with frustration if they tried.
Ive put quite a few hours into the game, made a shed load of notes and I still struggle, as some of the stuff is just impossible to get unless you involve something external to the game. you literally could play for years and never know how to get it if you didn't go out of the game fro input.
The game needs more direct linking in the menus to things / materials / resources / places, and or far more info popups / hints (even if its a passing comment from the COVAS) when you are after doing something specific.

There should be nothing in game that if they say you need it, you don't know exactly where to go to get it. You could have some of the NPCs in the stations have the info if you interact with them, if you wanted to go down a worldy role playing type scenario for the hard things to find.. you know I heard you could get this over here type thing, or straight out options to ask certain contacts.

I think the games great! its the only game on my PC and I was part of the original backers. i want it to carry on for years to come and get more and more people on it, but it cant be equivalent to learning / having another job, just to be able to play it.

Here's to ever improving!

..and randomly I took a screenshot of exactly that and the Cheiften and Mandalay yesterday.

You're welcome! Wasn't trying to flex my "elite-ness" which would be laughable because my skills are barely adequate for someone who has played as much as I have. Jeez, I hardly ever even use "flight assist off."

Frontier's lack of in-game guidance has frustrated me over the years as well. But even though most of us likely play by ourselves most of the time, it's still an MMO and it's the community that fills in the gaps. Once one accepts that external web sites are vital to the Elite experience, the game becomes much more enjoyable. My frustration dissipated once I got an Inara account. For me, it's the missing instruction manual for the game (Inara is so good, I pay for a subscription). Maybe join the Elite: Dangerous Community facebook group, too. Lots of players happy to answer questions there.

And I totally get your worries about security of third party apps. The only one I use is SRV Survey (great for exploration and bio scans) because it's available on the Microsoft store, so at least someone has vetted it.

Someone who picks up the game now because they heard about the thargoid invasion will definitely be frustrated by not being able to jump right into the war. In other MMOs, newbies can't do "endgame" stuff right away, either. But Frontier will sell them prebuilt ships that enable them to join in the fun. The price of a prebuilt isn't a bad deal for someone who got the game for free with Amazon Prime. Not that I ever thought selling ships for cash was a good idea, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I personally am absolutely loving this! Ganking goids has never been so much fun! I'd like to see more Medusa's in the instances though... straight from Cyclops to two hydras is a bit of a jump. Would be cool if they ramped up a little more linear instead of logarithmic.

I can't imagine why that would be the case. It is slightly helpful if hunters arrive but most of the time doesn't matter.

Feels to me more like the community is doing most of the work, not just filling in the gaps.

Once one accepts that external web sites are vital to the Elite experience, the game becomes much more enjoyable.

My experience has been the opposite. The more I'm required to use external tools for what should be basic features in the game, the less enjoyable it is.

Granted, I play in VR with hotas on my simrig, so alt tabbing back and forth is a bigger chore than for KBAM on pancake or such...

Inara is very helpful, it just shouldn't need to exist, the ingame tools should be good enough for the tasks.

Inara can also be widely innacurate on occasion. There was this system I was bringing trade goods to, to get that 40% merit bonus and Inara said I'd get 5-10x that.

Turned out the system was suffering an infrastructure failure and the goods I was bringing were only worth 1/10th their value.

Lesson for me was - don't blindly trust Inara. Use the in-game tools to verify what the site is saying.
