Elite dangerous trailer before Star Wars

Seems appropriate to me....One lazy damp squib rip-off coupled with a game that pretends to be another.....lol (This is obviously where a massive chunk of cash went, FIX THE GAME FIRST!)

Indeed. It's almost as if the marketing department are trying to sell a different game, or just CQC.

Indeed again. I wonder how many people who pick up the game on the back of the Star Wars advert will still be playing on 6 months (or even a couple of weeks) after realising how badly the game they just bought has been misrepresented. And how many programmer hours could have been bought with that cash instead?

My thoughts exactly, and that advertising space doesn't come cheap! The game would be better served by adding core game stuff, not borderline rip-offs of new players.

Sighs. Well at least it wasn't aired right before the next showing of TinkerBell and the Neverbeast.
Though I do sometimes wonder .. just a little bit (mu-HA?)

Each new player buys more for new, and existing players. Here's ED, support.

Better than the Star Wars movie itself?? :rolleyes:

Seriously?

Commanders,

(1) the people who make the vids are a dept in FD who are not coding specials, but video makers.
No new content were harmed in the making of this film.

(2) This is a picture of an airfix model;
Airfix is a toy (a 'model') and Elite Dangerous is a 'game' (a model of the galaxy);

THIS is what you get inside an airfix box ...

And this is the box ...

Sorry Cmdrs, but saying such things (about product description) is akin to;

Dear Airfix,

Having recently purchased, your box clearly shows a picture of rocket being fired from the model airplane included inside. However, having assembled the kit, I discovered that what you have sold me is in fact NOT A REAL PLANE!?

Yours in disgust,
Watto, Tattooine.

The videos are a representation, of some of the things you can already do in the game, and a glimpse of plans for the future. They also provide "context" for the game.

Here's one ..

What if this trailer is NEVER made available on the internet but stays a cinema exclusive!?
Will this break the interwebs?

THIS is one of the most laughable posts I have seen :) Equating FD's mis-representation with some utter tripe that would never happen just to discredit or demean a valid and relevant post....epic fail and to be honest a bit tired mate, try another tack.

Put another way, any trailer is synopsis (of the game/the book/the film/the whatever) that gives an idea of what you can expect to encounter in your game/play, squeezed into under 30 seconds. There's nothing misrepresentative though about depicting a pilot, ships, planets, battles, as these all happen in ED. Yes, the trailer is a compression and yes, it's building an illusion; but an illusion is what you get when the lights go down and you start to watch the movie/play the game.

Unfortunate if that post caught it, but really it's a bit of a worn out argument to suggest some kind of trade description criminality, when the trailers are rendered off in-game assets. Not demeaning the post, unless my comment on it should be wrapped in cotton wool, but what it said comes over as calumny.

I'm sorry you find my post to be tripe, perhaps you can be more specific on what the post misses?

Ermmm......the point of advertising is to generate new income exceeding the initial expenditure...which can be spent on improving the game, pizza or whatever.

Star Wars The Force Awakens was a let down of recycled material. JJ Abrams played it safe! Well put together though, just what a boring story. Yawn! Now if JJ remade the prequels.

Exactly this. I've honestly been astounded at the lack of advertisement for E: D. Most other games (of a certain size) have ads on every thinkable platform, running week after week, trying to entice new revenue streams.

Elite: Dangerous and it's potential has not been advertised enough in my humble opinion. But splashing for a cinema trailer paired with the newest Star Wars mania is pure genius in my book.

I expect to see a huge influx of new players/revenue for FD and E: D from this brilliant marketing stunt.

Yes - saw that last night.

Shame the movie was a bit of a disappointment (seemed very shallow to me, some bits even seemed more like cheap dialog cut scenes for a game - ugh) - at least the ED/H trailer was good ;)
