Elite Difficulty?

I don't know, what is so Elite about NPCs that can barely wipe their own ass?

*awaits punchline*
I was more or less talking about how easy this game is in it's current state. It doesn't seem to require a lot of skill to kill these weak NPCs that sometimes don't even have shields equipped.

For AI pilots the Elites put up pretty good fights IMO.

I know of no space or combat flight sim where the AI has a chance against an experienced human player.

But nothing feels dangerous in the game unless it is PvP. Interdictions are more of an annoyance than a threat - which is annoying in itself. If you don't do open play your most likely cause of death is boosting into a station wall, it is kinda disappointing

AI skill was dialled back from where it was during beta. If I am wrong about that then hopefully someone from Frontier will correct me. But I'm pretty sure I'm not wrong about that.

I agree with that.

The funny thing is that the AI, at least at higher difficulty levels, seems to do a pretty good job at actually flying. I just had a fight in my Cobra vs a deadly Anaconda. The AI Anaconda flew the ship absolutely fine, using boost, lateral thrusters and flight assist off to try to keep me in his sights. The problem was only that the Anaconda couldn't do enough damage to me. I would love to know if the AI uses the same weapon strength as a human or if human players get a bit of a boost.

It also seems that there is some kind of bug with them shutting their shields down. I am guessing when it generates their ships it is not looking at power requirements so you are getting ships with not enough power to run their systems. Thus they become easy kills. What they need to do is balance shield banks as that for me is what makes this way to easy. That and up interdictions in lawless sectors as they are way to rare. Would like to see some group interdictions as well, would be nice if 2-3 Sidewinders could attack someone.

I am sure it will come in time, I love the game but it could have used another 2-3 months of polishing before "release"

It does feel like that

maybe it also is because you are in a decked out cobra and the elite pilot is in a sidewinder. just saying.

I take it you're not aware that people are using their Freagles to kill elite Anacondas ? And by "people" I am counting one of the devs that posted about it, so I am pretty sure he knows how easy mode the game is at the moment

Do you fly a basic ship i.e. bog standard equip?
or do you have a fully upgraded ship?
What ship do you have and what load out??????
I am in an upgraded Eagle and I do not go near anacondas even if the feds are taking them on, and yes I have tried :(
Also have you tried going against them on your own i.e. no feds by interdicting a elite wanted ship? Totaly one to one is very exciting and fun!

I've seen a lot of threads about how the game is too easy. I tend to agree that it could do with the A.I. being made a bit tougher from what i've seen so far BUT a lot of players (especially one that never played the original games) may be unaware that in those original iterations of the game (bearing in mind Elite was only single-player) the opposition got tougher as your combat rank increased...both better A.I. and also larger groups of enemies.

Whether this is something the ED also incorporates i cannot personally attest to having only recently reached the exalted rank of 'Novice'

p.s. I took on one of those imperial ships in a very well upgraded viper with dual gimbaled beams and dual pulse, got him down to 40% hull but he degraded my shield to the point where i could no longer recharge it and i died. early on in the fight, i was winning...i could have run as well but chose to fight...difficulty depends, not only on pilot skill but equipment and the quality of the opposition. I think a lot of the people complaining about the difficulty may have a rude awakening at some point.

The AI seems a bit dim compared to how they used to be in alpha and beta. I remember them being FAR more aggressive. Most of the ones I fight now don't even land a single hit on me and I've yet to get in to a situation where I have more than 1 enemy shooting at me at once (if there are other hostile nearby they just seem to sit there and do nothing).

If they are using projectile weapons they usually miss by 100s of meters as well, they don't seem to lead the target at all.

With weak AI and OP shield cells, the game is pretty easy at the moment.

No it doesnt. Elite: D - more like Elite: Harmless is easy game right now. Especially thanks to dumb AI and shield cells which eliminates any risk as you can spam them whenever you want and theres no downside for it.
Hope it gets fixed.

High level AI could use a bit of a buff. That said, I hope people do realize there is no game requirement to fly Vipers with shield cells, right?

If game's too easy, drop back down to Sidewinder. I fly a Freagle with no shield cells, and i'm having fun.
