elite disbanded pilot analytics

With all the speak of late of people discontent with the state of elite for various reasons, I feel it would be interesting to have some form of analytics for the supporting and departing community to browse through, such as geographical location, time spent playing, reason (I'm not questioning validation), lack of Internet or general speed and any other relevant or interesting information.

From a kickstarter backer it would be quite fascinating to see what happened and cultural trends behind this current situation.

That's reasonable, I'm a departing member, so I'll keep it short and to the point -

Demographic : Late 30's
Geographic location : Southern UK
Time spent playing : I'd estimate 8-12 hours, but stopped entirely at the release of newsletter 49.
Reason : A mix of principle (I played Elite - the original as a singleplayer game, I intended to play this one the same way, and I do not play singleplayer games online, end of story) and practicality (some days I am not in such great shape due to degenerative ill health and I play on a wireless tablet, and whilst the performance between tablet and PC in terms of streaming is fantastic, and on *certain* online games it's entirely fine, Elite has not been such a game)
Connectivity : ADSL2+ with realtime peering to the exchanges and usage of certain routing tables that the great unwashed aren't privvy to. It means in practice that I never see contention on the line and my idea of latency is around 8-12ms to europe (yes, I have practically LAN latency in europe), and 60ms to the US. Some days it pays to have friends in the right places ;)
Background : Was an 84'er, played as a kid on the BBC micro, fell in love with it, have a thing for space sims, extensive background in gaming and information technology, these days, I spend a lot of time reading and persuing hobbies, due to mentioned illness.

Departing.

Demographic: Young but not old, Old but not young
Location: US - West
Time: <2 hours (see reason for details)
Reason: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=58789&page=663&p=1035325#post1035325
Connectivity: multiple leg wireless P2P -- power outages or connectivity disruptions (weather and who knows) at any leg are more frequent than I would like (more often in winter) and can last 2-12 hours
Background: First computer was a 286. Assembly was when I realized I had a natural aptitude for tech.

Departing

Demographic....near half of 100...;)
Location: Soufhwest Germany
Connectiviy:Up to 25Mbit fiberglass they promise...final left around 3mbit but often shared with all 3 Family members
Time Spend playing: Only weekends when no Family Business....sometimes during short vactions ...so in best it can be 10 h/(free)day or nothing at all.
Reason: Family goes before Gaming. So any kind of MMO is not for me...I play long time EVE there I learn that lesson
Background: First computer a Atari 2600 WITH 1kb keyboard...good enough for 100 lines simple BASIC.
Than C64/1541 .....many
Atari ST one 8086....than the way from 286 to I7.?

Departing.

Demographic: Young but not old, Old but not young

Background: First computer was a 286. Assembly was when I realized I had a natural aptitude for tech.

*considers the background, location, age description, and really funky connection setup*

... Mr. McAfee, that you in there? :D

Supporting/Not Departing (did I understand that right? I felt it would be beneficial to hear from someone who is staying with the game, for contrast)

Demographic: Late 30's
Geographic location: Arizona, USA
Time spent playing: probably around 15 hours so far, most likely will be much more after launch
Reason: I love space games, and grew up with the original Elite. Frontier was just such an obvious step in the right direction when I saw it, and it blew my mind. FFE, to me, was conceptually the icing on the Frontier cake (though the bugs annoyed me - not the Thargoids). This is the sort of game I've always wanted.
Background: As above, grew up with the original, on my family's C64 in the 80's. The C64 wasn't quite as big in the US as it was in the UK, but when my dad was looking into buying a family computer back then, he decided the C64 offered the most flexibility compared to the other options. Eventually the C64 was mine, since I used it more than anyone else in my family, even my sister, and I used it until the late 90's, even after I had bought my first 386 with my own money from an older friend. And man, I played the hell out of Elite, Frontier, and FFE. I tried Privateer too, but compared to Frontier, it just didn't have the depth I'd grown accustomed to. Some of the best memories of my childhood were spent hauling goods, shooting down pirates, and listening to 90's alternative with the radio I kept beside my comp (yeah I was one of those teens). At some point I was mem hacking FFE, figuring out how it worked (I did this with alot of games), trying to find clues to secret easter eggs, and even experimenting with weird game design ideas by essentially cheating. The idea of a fourth game in the Elite series fascinated me. I was already a sci-fi fan and played lots of space sims and games, but nothing excited me more than when, in 2012, during another one of my regular google searches for "Elite 4" (and dodging all of the Pokemon related results that tended to appear), I found the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter. Needless to say, I was sold as soon as I clicked the link. I was already sold 15 years ago. I've been in the game dev industry for a long time. I knew what to expect - or rather, to forego expectations. I just wanted to see what my favorite dev team could do with the franchise they created. I went in with an open mind and I have to say I like what I see. I am in it for the long haul. The game is fun, reminds me of the old ones, and adds lots of cool new features I like. Maybe my experience and background isn't quite like the "average player", whatever that is, but it's what it is. So there you go.
Connectivity: Centurylink DSL 16.89Mbps down, 0.83Mbps up (from latest test results)

Staying Player

American in UK, London
ADSL 5mb down .5 up with medium loss of server weekly.
Age: Lower 50s
1/3 right side paralyzed from a Stroke.
First home PC was a Commodore Pet AND a Apple ][, started on a Dec 10/PDP 11 in '74
Reason: I have always considered Elite to be among the first best games out there and I am not disappointed with the game as a whole, even those current changes cause some issues.
Time: About 4 - 8 hours a day lately, but that will go up, just been a REALLY busy month.

Staying Player.

Variable internet connection, almost never wired in, occasionally tethered to phone
Age: 40
Paunch.
Time in Play: Maybe a hundred hours at a guess in the last 4 months, ish?
Background: Played every iteration of Elite. Built my share of PCs, some very very custom for 3D animation, nonlinear edit and stuff. Play has been my Great Escape and often Great Inspiration all my life. Loved the beta, loving the Gamma. Trying to be sympathetic with people who are so badly upset, but still kind of vexed by the level of negativity.

Staying

Mid 30's
Cable connection 90mbps up/9mbps down. Maybe had 2days of outage in 5 years.
In since premium beta.
I have wanted another elite game since forever. I started playing ff2 on the Amiga 500.
I got a nice new rig and an oculus dk2 to fully experience the game.
I don't mind always on if it results in a more vibrant galaxy. A lot of service require me to be always on so I personally don't have a problem with it.
But I can see how this could be a problem for people who have to go without internet for long periods of time.
