I've got a good number of people to buy ED and a DK2. Each one of them has very little previous Elite game experience.
Every last one of them has said "ED is too easy"...and I would have to agree.
  • Getting Bounty From Kill...Easy.
  • Trading...Easy.
  • Killing Pirates That Interdict You...Easy.
  • Flying In Anarchy Systems...Easy.
  • NPC AI, Including Elite NPCs...Easy
  • Authority Vessels. Waste Of Space. Due to a bug an NPC Auth Vessels will attack me. I can quite happily mooch around while still bounty hunting. The Viper Auth Vessels firepower is just rubbish and against my stock cobra shields and hull they cause me almost no damage...EASY!
The game is immensely fun and immersive...but it's far, far, far from being Dangerous in any way shape or form.
The ONLY way I have died, or even come close to dying, is in a warzone when an Asp cut across my bow and 10th of a sec later there was a collision and instant BOOM! This happened twice in 30mins. Sod all you can do about it....BOOM!Boooooooo :(
What are your experiences? Easy, Medium, Hard?

I think Fed/Empire space is just right (it should be relatively safe...)

Anarchy systems need to be way more dangerous, but there needs to be a reason to do those dangerous runs.

Just as well then the name of the game (ED) has nothing to do with difficulty or risk then isnt it ;)

(You should know that by now !)

Now thats off my chest yes, I find the game fairly easy - I died recntly taking on a wanted Anaconda but I expected that being in a half upgraded sidewinder

Chainsaws scare me, have you ever had one kick back at you. Scary. I'll stick to my shotguns :D

Yea, it was a sort of play on words really.
My point still stands though.
In previous games you only had to wipe your bum sideways and all hell would break loose and you would be turned into swiss cheese.
Anarchy Systems...Oooo...errrr...I'll risk it....BALLS! Knew that was a bad idea.
New ED: La..la la la..la...la.....la...look at the pretty gas giant...la...la..la, la...Hello Mr Pirate...La..la..la
If you got wasted by the Anaconda you need to change your tactics, your death I'm afraid to say was self inflicted.
  1. Shoot, shoot, shoot...la, la, la...wait a bit.
  2. Incoming Auth Vessels, mint. This will take agro.
  3. Sit back at 4km and dive in to take pot shots at various intervals, then back out to 4km.
  4. Auth Vessels slowly take the conda down.
  5. Then at 10% jump in all guns blazing...almost impossible to not get the bounty due to this new tagging mechanic.
  6. Job done. £150,000 in the bank. Easy days work.

It all depends how you play the game. I really wanted a Clipper, so bought a Cobra, kitted it out and did combat missions for the Imperials.

For 3 day's I Hunted Elite Anaconda's/dropship's/Python's for 150,000c per mission. Using only Multi Cannons - It was a real slug fest, after each fight i would be victorious, but my Canopy would be destroyed, life support running, hull at 40% ammo near zero. Sometimes I would dock at an outpost only to find no repair facility.. I would limp on to the next station still on life support.

I wouldn't call the fight's hard.. I would definitely not call them easy. The whole experience was challenging and immersive for me. One wrong hit and I could lose my thrusters. Only big improvement I would like to see is more multiple ship engagements.

Trading being easy? Hell yeah, that's how I want it. Bought clipper , initially running full Cargo 242T, no shields or enough cash to pay insurance for the first 10 trade runs.. One wrong move and I'm back in a Sidewinder losing 30 million Credits.. Not hard, just risky. After a few hours of risk taking I had 6 million in the bank, insurance covered and shields back on the ship.

So trading, yes it should be easy if you play it safe, only challenging bit is finding a good route or deciding how much risk you are willing to take to make huge amounts of cash.

Because you will be taking on AI for 99.9% of the time then yes this game is far to easy they have been dumb ed down far to much.. If there was more pvp content than that would be a different story... I still think there should be a BIG difference in skill between novice, intermediate, master and elite NPC ships with the bounty to match their rank

All my play is done online.
Since release I can count the number of humans I have seen on 1 hand.
One of those human players thought it would be amusing to interdict me a few times and attack me with no warning...ran the 1st time due to key bindings not being set, 2nd time was different, took all of 10 seconds to splat their innards across the universe.
I always play Online mode, never solo.

Anarchy doesn't mean dangerous though. Unexplored systems are anarchies. Unless the pilot is a danger to himself.

I got to the stage where I was able to tackle almost any PvE encounter without much problems within a couple of days. Certainly too easy.

Right now I'm doing PvP piracy. That is quite challenging and will remain so. I'm mostly concerned that, because there's not really much hinderence to earning quite a bit of money, I'll be left behind and every player I see will be in something much bigger than me fairly soon, as piracy really doesn't pay that well.

I agree the only time I see other players is when they are jumping between systems but this is to be expected with the size of the galaxy and is not a problem.. I hope one day the devs will focus on certain systems for a story background that will encourage more players to gather and choose sides to fight against each other.. I know there is conflict zones now and I hope this idea continues to grow...

I still want my behind handed to me on a plate in a years time even when I have a top end ship.
There should never be a time in ED where you become way too powerful for NPCs. Never, ever. This shouldn't be like WoW where you can almost 1 shot NPCs the same level as you once you have decent tier equip.
At the moment there is 0 challenge...well apart from finding a decent trade route, but even that's easy since ppl post on the forums where good routes are...so even that's not much of a challenge.

I can't actually see any difference between harmless and Elite NPCs tbh. They both go down without a real fight :/

If using projectile weapons NPCs will pretty much never hit you (or each other). They don't seem to lead the target. Their accuracy with energy weapons isn't exactly amazing either though.

I think the last time an NPC even came close to beating me was in early beta and I've been taking out loads of elite Anacondas for assassinations missions. The last time I died was in early gamma and that was my own mistake
