Does anyone know the approximate exploration profit required to make Elite rank? The various sites I've seen have wildly different amounts stated. The highest is on the Elite Dangerous wiki which states 156.5m, yet I've got 143m profit from exploration and am only 61% towards Elite from the Pioneer rank.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

If you've been doing passenger missions, it might be affecting your results.

I don't think it's anything to do with profit, but more to do with scans. At least, it was before the passenger missions. I think you need in the region of 8000 scans to hit Elite (can't remember my stats right now and am not in game).

I've done a couple, no more than 2-3m total rewards. Most of it has been long exploration trips - one to Sag A and back, and one to Colonia.

To add, I've just sold 3m worth of cartographic data and only went up 1%. That seems way too low.

You need 156 to go from Pioneer to Elite. Your 143 is total profit, and you needed +-60 to get to pioneer. That means you only got 143-60=83 or so since then, which is a little over half of what you need for elite.

The wiki is correct.

I dont think this is the case, given I am 90% pioneer and only have about 135 million in exploration profits overall
I go up 1% pioneer for approximately every 2 million I make

I only got 3% pioneer from passenger missions

Sadly, the last time I looked, excluding passenger mission elites, it's to do with cash.

So i've been into the exploration scene and looked at the ranks for a long long time and honestly think that the rank is one of the easiest to get especially with the 2.3 buffs. Really needs an adjustment now.

Exploration is pure profit but there are a few things that edit it from a pure 156mil = Elite.

-Planetary pickups of new materials give you some % Elite ranking
-Exploration pre-profit buffs from 1.3 (iirc) affect it
-Passenger missions affect it


In short Elite rank will be anything between 140 and 170mil exploration profits. I've yet to see any outliers on those figures so good luck OP you arn't far off!

Also anyone wondering on this note Li Yong Rui rank 5 powerplay bonus does count to Elite rank. Means you only need ~55-60mil of data to be sure of getting Elite.
