I can only hope FDev take this into account in the future. I am assuming they shut down the player factions because they were running out of systems, but with colonisation I would assume that balance changed. The problem now is that anyone aligned to a squadron with a player faction has already got a player faction in their system.

Maybe I'm unusual here, but I wanted a system not aligned to my factions goals so I've had to BGS it to get someone else's Imperial Anarchy faction (there were no local npc factions) into the system I am in, in order to make it a wretched hive of scum and villany.
 
Yes, colonisation has certainly added a lot more systems, but only a relatively small fraction only contain NPC factions.

Having your home system be a new system that no-one from your group has architect rights on could also be very risky since the architect can potentially mess things up intentionally or otherwise for BGSing purposes.
 
True, but conversely, allowing the architect to add a new player faction to their system even if a player faction already resides in their system, would provide a faction home that the new faction could spread from (or not).

Ideally I suppose we should see new NPC factions spawning across the newly colonised systems as various hidden conditions get triggered?
