No! Lot of us wishes and want everything to. But we do not demand it.
It's a matter of with what of attitude you ask for it.

They don't have to comply. There is no profit for them. So it moree support for the hobby or educational part of people who want to enter this industry.

the core of Elite Project its che galaxy map and newtonian system a mammoth job of 5 years maybe. All that can be re-used for the new Elite universe, "just" using them in a new graphic engine and with new graphic, but a very large part of the job simulating a galaxy is basically already done and they can concentrate on other aspet of the game, like more planet missions and sidequests on planetsn a gorgoeus graphic of a various universe with nebula, asteroids belt etc.....
So i vote no for open source and let them develop a new Elite
