Hi everyone,

Returning player here. Does anyone know of resources that succinctly explain the state of the game, what there is to do, major noteworthy changes, that sort of thing?
I haven't really played since a few months after Horizons and was wondering what there is to do out there.

A lot of it is still dependent on your imagination but to be fair there have been a lot of changes since you last played. I would just go read old patch notes. YouTube is tough because the same 3 or 4 creators make the same videos on the same subjects every few months or so.

Try my ED blog. Here are the patch notes

 

[Franc Kaos]

Thargoids invaded, then putzed about in the Pleaides and a couple of other nebulae. They've just started getting active again.
External camera, avatar creation, orrery introduced. Some multiplayer stuff I ignored.
Some politics happened, not much to do with Sirius so I ignored it. A princess got killed by a player.
Planets got more colourful, Galnet died for a while then got better, ditto CGs. Epic gave the game away for free. Fdev finally rolled Horizons into the base game.
Engineering was improved with material traders but then they hid where the material traders worked from - so Fdev.
Mining was improved then became the only thing worth doing if you wanted credits or buy a <newly introduced> Fleet Carrier (5 Billion credits), recently been nerfed so if you hadn't bought a Carrier then you probably never will.
Ice planet upgrades finally coming out in Odyssey (still don't look like those pictures they posted)...

All caught up - probably o7 Cmdr!

Fake Edit: CQC has finally been incorporated into the main game.

They still haven't fixed combat logging =(.

I am no single brand, but instead a cosmic embodiment of the single greatest cup of tea you have ever tasted. If you've never had tea this is best imagined by that scene with Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.

I come and go with this game, months at a time away doing other things. When I finally return again, I find that flying the ship is still 85% of the game play, the station interface is still like a board game and the game still wants that monochrome color at every HUD. It's amazing the HUD color scheme change still requires 3rd party tools, that one still cannot find Tritium without using a 3rd party tool to locate it, and that FDev still plays whack-a-mole with "fun" game play because it's "OP" and "Kills the game". Long live the beast, I suppose.
