I've been playing since beta too and I never seem to get bored. I can easily end up spending hours on the game when I intended to only log on for an hour. I find there's something I want and I try to work out how to get there and all kinds of weird and wonderful things happen in the course of trying to get it. I recently read the Galnet post about the Emperor's return to health, and that all commanders with any active rank in the Imperial Navy can buy the Imperial ships - so I decided to go to Imperial space and get a Courier and Clipper... and all kinds of bizarre things ensued as I tried to get from Outsider up to Serf. Getting sidetracked on missions, interdicted by pirates, picking up too many courier jobs and misjudging my time left, interdicting a wing of 8 pirates when I got stupid, trying to work out where to pick up a cargo when I realised I'd messed up and ending up going off into places I never expected to go, an assassination for the Imperial Navy, and then trying to work out from Powerplay the best place to buy discounted Couriers and Clippers.
This was all after a two week exploration jaunt where I managed to get first discovery on a pair of earthlikes (I actually felt a little stinging in my eyes when I first saw the scan come up 'Earthlike'... it was my first ever first discovery Earthlike).
Oh and nope, I think tourism will come in with passengers - no word yet on when that's coming. I think it's been said that there's a lot of other features that need to be implemented before that can be meaningfully put in. Lots of speculation about what the big announcement at Gamescom on 5th August will be! This seems about the right timing for announcing the 'year after launch' first big paid expansion... so hoping it will be really cool
I wonder just how many people are secretly aching for it to be the first stage of planetary landings, the airless moons, heheh. It could be passengers though. It has been stated that walking around ships and stations isn't the announcement for Gamescom though, and that it will be a way off before that comes.
Either way, looking forward to it big time here
