Elite In 2020 - What Do You Expect?

Hi All,

Elite Dangerous is a 10 year game. I'm a Lifetime Subscriber and even though i don't play a lot, i don't regret my purchase. In 2020 i expect to be able to group up with a Guild/Clan. Land on our own planet and walk about with my personally created Avatar. The planet will have an atmosphere and player created structures. Player controlled space stations in which you can walk around on will also be a reality.

I also think we will have large scale PvP and servers with a much higher player count.

I'll also be playing it on a 4K VR Headset.

The game will either have more content to keep players interested, or it'll have failed and the servers shut down. I think the latter possibility is far more likely.

we either will be playing another space game that gets there first and does it better or....
ED may have better game mechanics by then, the ability to explore in fps derelict ships in middle of space, finding ruins of a ancient alien race on a planet, and exploring it with mates, instead of 1984 txt driven missions,we could have actual npc`s that have say a bounty office for example, you would go there to pick up the bounty personally....actually live the life of a space rogue/han solo type.

Mass effect that's online but with ED`s ship flying...but better....SC seems to be the one at the moment that has the brighter future and will give what the majority modern day gamers want.
I played 84 elite, all the pretty graphics in the world cant make it like it was back then.....

Evolution

Basically this...although to be fair...knowing things for sure that far ahead is impossible and this applies to both us and them even if it might be the plan.

2016 - Landing / driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids (Elite Dangerous: Horizons)
2017 - Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
2018 - Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports
2019 - Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
2020 - Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players

In the newsletter this was written they did add "in no particular order", but I don't believe them which is why I added the years. ;):p

And since this was a somewhat serious answer in a thread where that obviously doesn't fit I'll just add this...

People will still be making "reduction arguments" about how the ONLY THING you can do in the game is X and how the game still haven't change in any way at all since the original launch, eventhough the abouve points might be in at that point. They will also complain about how the game isn't worth the money. :D

Maybe we will have just discovered 10% of the galaxy, but I doubt it.

Oh and Zeewolf's comment is spot on.

No one's mentioned Thargoids! I hope that by 2020 I'll be disabling and boarding Thargoid ships and being able to kick them right in the knackers. On that note, as soon as they announce development of ground-based/ship-based-on-foot-combat I will start campaigning, extremely vocally, for the "groin kick", "groin punch" & "groin shot" special abilities.

Them Thargoids darn well deserve it, gosh darnit!

Alliance ships revealed and planned for release sometime in 2025.

Please, can we keep this to realistic expectations! :D

Thargoids to have been defeated by the Empire and Federation with the Alliance in tatters for siding with the Aliens - New Aliens arrive that make the Thargoids look like a bunch of Hutton Truckers - New weapons based on Thargoid technology to help combat the new threat and the AMD super cruise bug in W10 finally to be under investigation!

I don't expect ED to be around in 2020.

But if it was to last that long, I would expect

It to have moved to server away from P2P
Combat logging and general exploitation removed
Modes to have been separated or at least a PVE only and PVP universe. Which you cannot switch between with the same save file.
Full reworking of in game mechanics. Highwake escapes, shield tanking, hull tanking, weapon damage, ship specialisations.
To be subscription based
To have a static universe
A proper risk / reward structure to cover crime, bounty hunting, trade etc etc. Make everything actually matter or have consequence.
Much more variety in ships and a proper customisation models to give physical changes rather than just skins.
Player owned stations, planets and capital ships.
Player driven content, economy and control over in game events/storylines.
Still no one playing CQC
Everyone still complaining about The Code

Stuff I know we will see but don't care about.
Walking around your ship
Walking around a station

I will keep buying in the hope one day longer more interesting 'quest' type missions go in and the missions system gets expanded to include wings.

So no expectations just the hope for more complex missions.
