Fiction Elite IN fiction.

So, I was re-reading Steve Harris's "Adventureland," an excellent novel about that time in 1990 when a haunted funfair came to Basingstoke, and in it, the protagonist gets given, in the first chapter, a game for the Amstrad CPC called "Spare Pirates" which from what we see reported of him dodging asteroids ("like a boxer evading a one-two punch,") blowing up bad guys and taking their stuff, trading, etc., is clearly Original Elite.

Are there any other instances you can think of where Elite or its sequelae or obvious expies thereof appeared in other fiction?

Its hard to tell; The Elite universe is itself mostly derivative.
2001 a space oddysey, A hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, are obvious influences; And a little later, Starwars and Startrek with there Empires and Federations.
