It's a bit of a rigged poll mate. There's a lot of content being requested that is consistent with what Elite has always been (effectively a Hans Solo simulator), e.g. wings, being able to have more meaningful story impact as part of the existing factions, but there's also a lot of dragging out tired MMO and space game tropes that just don't really fit, crafting and "space weather" (e.g. ion storms, candy coloured nebula) being the two that are top of mind.

You need a C. which is "Definitely needs more substantive content, but only content that actually fits"

To me it sounds a lot like an elaborate way of saying that either the forums are right or the company is. Mutually-exclusive of course.

The game started long ago with a sensible vision that turned into content.
Today - the vision remains largely unchanged, but content evolved beyond recognition.

How the hell can be "Braben's vision" in opposition to getting new content? Does David actually has a vision that no content should be added to the game post-launch?
Seems like the vision includes mostly sucky content and 1984-style gameplay, amazing how many people still vote #2 though, I guess that concept appeals to them somehow.

The lack of depth tends to be in ppls thinking. This game is nowhere near finished. It's a work in progress and I'm happy to be able to see the evolution take place. The game sits right in the middle of both these points of view. Even the developers know this. It may have been rushed out but I'm glad for that. Rather play it now than in 2 years time.

You make your own content. That is the purpose of this game and they won't change that. Go play something that holds your hand with sparkly little paths to your next quest.
This attitude drives games into 10 player derelicts.

Welcome to the 2014, content brings people, people bring money, money keeps things going.

Without money, this thing will collapse in months.

And no, this doesn't mean it would ruin your sandbox by dropping in toys, no one forces you to use them.

first, Braben is my hero

second, Braben vision isn't only cosmetic.

imo Braben's vision is opposite to cosmetic. i think all the cosmetic thing comes from commercial requirments.

tbh, looking at this fantastic videogames is all but estetic :D

Aren't you one of those folks that was also predicting the game would get crucified once the professional reviews started dropping? How is that prediction working out for you? Oh let me guess theyre all bought and paid for. ;)

The truth is Braben said they already paid for development with their preorders alone with enough to start on additional content development, and since there is no sub fee retention isnt as crucial to a game like this as it is to more mainstream mmos so all the folks that were hoping for Call of Duty: Space Ops that drop off in the next month isn't going to hurt the game, good riddance to bad rubbish. FD as an entity has existed for over 30 years, there is no chance it will collapse in a few months.

I might just get out of the prognostication business if I were you, its not your strong suit.

It is stuff like this that makes me want to just never look at the official forums again. Does every critical comment about the game necessarily require someone to brandish the proverbial 'get off my lawn and go play CoD/WoW' comment? Criticizing a game, other products, a piece of art, or a work of scholarship can help facilitate improvement. The only thing that gets hurt when people offer their criticism or feedback is apparently the feelings of people like you.

Elite hasn't always been this way, and what we have is about halfway to what was talked about, debated, discussed, planned and specced over the last year/18 months.

Don't you mean the last 18 years ? Even on AFE we were talking about a more advanced concept that what we have here and that was at least 15 years ago, I even seem to remember a post from Braben along the lines of we will have to wait a few years for the technology to enable x,y,z feature. And here we are 18 years on and what we have is basically 1984 Elite with 'eye candy'.

I think you misunderstood my comment. Im not telling anyone to do anything, and Im all for some much needed improvement to this game. I just dont think that turning it into purely a space shooter would be an improvement, and there are clearly people here that want pew pew pvp to be the major focus of the game. I am very much looking forward to that particular group to get over the fact that its not going to happen and move on, which they certainly will regardless of what I have to say, as it is my personal opinion that what they wanted this game to be would be very damaging, and that their exit will have a positive affect on the community as a whole. My "feelings" are unaffected by anonymous people on gaming forums for whom I have very little to no regard, but I appreciate your concern.

As for actual constructive criticism regarding improving Elite I have offered up my suggestions and look forward to hearing other people do the same.

Ahhh, the old hand holding excuse again. Didn't see that one coming......lol.

There is no 3

Well, without 3 and 4, your poll is useless.

3 should be BOTH 1 and 2, of course!

4 should be JUST FIX the transaction system, the server architecture and account corruption issues!

So I couldn't vote, cause its not an either or question and you can't shoehorn it into one

less game breaking bugs, please...

- transaction failures causing people to loose large amounts of credits
- transaction failures blocking people's cargo holds with ghost cargo
- Explorers needing to get moved back to starter areas and loosing all ranks gained in the process
- far too frequent match maker and arbitration server failures
- people's accounts becoming inaccessible, making them unable to log in.
- half of the promised game features missing
