Map setup and ready to go

We were running so far behind that the Tournament had to be abandoned but prizes were awarded for the most inventive and aggressive gameplay.

Game 1 – 12:00
Scenario: -
Deathmatch
Players and Ships: -
Darren Grey – 1 Master Cobra.
Rega– 2 Expert Sidewinders.
Dobbo – 1 Master Cobra.
Nat – 2 Expert Sidewinders.

The winner for the match was Mr Darren ‘Sidewinder Popper’ Grey who devastated the board. Nat Wright carefully consolidated her forces and could have dealt Mr Grey a devastating blow, however the game time ran out before the final resolution.

Game 2 – 13:00
Scenario: -
Deathmatch
Players and Ships: -
Snoz – 1 Master Cobra.
Edward Lewis – 2 Expert Sidewinders.
Zac Antonaci – 1 Competent Fer-De-Lance.
George – 1 Master Cobra.

The Frontier match started quite quickly, with the Zac’s deadly Fer-De-Lance smashing Mike Snozwell’s Cobra to bits. George’s Cobra got himself into a little bit of trouble but was able to out run the Fer-De-Lance and the Sidewinders.

The Fer-De-lance shrugged off a couple of hits from the other players. The winner was Zac for the only ‘Kill’ of the Match (Sorry Mike) but special mention has to go to Ed Lewis who had obviously learnt from the previous game and not one single hit landed on either of his Sidewinders.

Game 3 – 14:00
Scenario: -
Treasure Hunt
Players and Ships: -
Phillip – 1 Master Cobra.
Steve – 2 Expert Sidewinders.
Vigor – 1 Competent Fer-De-Lance.
Kerrash – 1 Elite Eagle.

The objective seemed simple, salvage the two canisters from the centre of the Map and the first player to get one and then get their ships off the map. Everyone raced in for the cargo, and despite of some heavy fire from other players, Steve got one of his sidewinders to pick up the first canister. However, at this point an Imperial Clipper entered the Fray and targeted all other ships. It should be pointed out that multiple based ships have slightly different rules (including two attacks a round). Steve promptly took the cargo and ran, being the first to get off the board.

Kerrash managed the best ‘Brave Sir Robin’ Manoeuvre and snuck the other cargo canister away from under Vigor’s Fer-De-Lances nose and then used the Eagles superior manoeuvrability to run away in such a cowardly fashion, that it would have done Fozza proud. The Clipper wasted no time showing the Fer-De-Lance who was boss and Vigor’s ship was soon sparkly little bits of dust in the blackness of space.

Game 4 – 16:00
Scenario: -
Treasure Hunt
Players and Ships: -
Baz Flloyd??? – 1 Master Cobra.
Steph – 2 Expert Sidewinders.
Sam – 1 Competent Fer-De-Lance.
Jon Hoggard – 1 Elite Eagle.

Again, the objective seemed simple, salvage the two canisters from the centre of the Map and the first player to get one and then get their ships off the map.

Sam’s Fer-De-lance took down Jon’s Eagle when it was trying to scoop the cargo in one of the fastest kills of the Game. Baz keeps his Cobra in the distance, while Steph hands over control of one of her sidewinders to John, so he can keep playing. However, as Steph arrives to scoop a canister, she finds herself Nose to Nose with the FDL. She’s punished by the vastly superior firepower and must have missed her last thruster overhaul because she didn’t manage once evade against a massive 6 hit barrage and her ship was reduced to dust.

Just when things could not get any worse the Clipper Arrived but I changed the only available exit vector to be corner directly behind the Big Ship. Sam’s FDL scoops the second canister and then tries to outflank the Clipper but is damaged by the Big Ship instead. Mr Hoggard decides that he has no chance and Kamikazes his sidewinder into the clipper to help the FDL escape. The Clipper’s Shields hold but are depleted and it fires both its turrets on the FDL, while the Cobra tried to engage the Clipper.

The Clipper closes to point blank range and wipes Sam’s FDL off the board, while the Cobra engages the clipper. However, being the only ship left of the Board, the Clipper Focuses fire on the Cobra which withers under the weight of fire.

Winner: - The Clipper!

Special mention has to go to Jon Hoggard for losing two ships in one game, one of which wasn’t even his.

Thanks goes to everyone who played it. It seem to go down well and I think everyone picked up the rules in less than ten minutes and we may have been a rather loud table at the back of the room (Sorry to anybody who was doing a reading at the time).

The Winners were;-
1st Prize – Steve Jeyes – Cobra and a Sidewinder.
2nd Prize – Darren Grey – Cobra and a Sidewinder.
3rd Prize – Zac Antonaci – Cobra.

I’ve received some new models from Mike to get the Cobra and the Sidewinder to the right scale and I'm working on V3 for sometime in the Future. In the meantime, if anyone wants to arrange a game in the Manchester Area, I'm quite willing to set up a game or two at the Fanboy3 gaming store in Manchester City Centre.

Just drop me a line.

This rabbit hole keeps getting deeper.. I love Space sims, so E:D sucked me in about a month ago. That I found out it's in the same universe as Elite, from the 90s which I loved. Now I find out there is a board game and I love board games? what next? some kick ass Elite movie no one told me about? That the reference to sidewinder in the second season of Firefly is from Elite?

Man, this is awesome.

Yeah, I lied about Firefly, the rest is true.
