For those unfamiliar, Elite Dangerous Beyond was the 3.x update season, with a primary focus on bug fixes and quality of life updates. It was also one of the most popular and high quality periods of Elite's development, sandwiched between two relative disappointments in Horizons and Odyssey. Now ofc I'm on the official forums so both of those huge expacs had good elements but I don't think anyone would scoff at me calling them half baked.
Beyond was an opportunity for the devs to take a step back, focus on improving the game for everybody and polishing old systems instead of adding new systems. Look at the things that came out of it: engineering rework, material traders, wing missions, subsurface mining, and the Chieftain and Krait platforms, among others. Sure, there were some stinkers, like C&P, but on the whole it was, in this humble CMDR's opinion, the best period in Elite's history.
I don't want ship interiors. I don't really want new ships, when you have so many old ships that could be propped up. I don't want another half baked expac. I just want the stuff that's already in the game to be tweaked a little bit. Powerplay guys deserve a bone. Shore up the p2p netcode so hackers can't spoof CMDR names and SPEAR can't dox people. Make playing with other CMDRs less of a hassle. Help Odyssey run better. Tweak some shield multiplier values to reign in health pools. Let CMDRs sell materials so their buddies can jump in and play instead of spending weeks logging in and out of HGEs. I'd rather give the devs time to make the game better instead of throwing at the wall to see what sticks, and that sentiment is shared by a large chunk of the playerbase. People will come back and bring their friends if playing with them is easy and fun
I don't know just a thought.
