Yep that's right folks Elite as we all suspected is officially the longest running space simulation series out there.

So, Congratulations to David and everyone who has been involved in this fantastic series of games over the years. :D

Funny to think back to those wireframe graphics and think that the game is still going and even more than that most of the ships still resemble their wire frame dads!Well other than the adder...!

Anyway, "Thanks for all the fish!" Mr Braben, Ian Bell and everyone else who has been involved

Are we talking just the original Elite released in 1984? Or all four games?
If you/they/whoever decided this, means just the 1984 Elite, then Space Invaders is the longest running shoot-em-up and Pong is the longest running two player game.
If you/whoever means all four games, then I'm sorry, but the 17.5 year break has to be included in the consideration.

FUN FACT: Did you know WWE Raw is the longest running weekly episodic televison show in the world? Yep, it really is true. Trust me, I've done research trying to prove it isn't, and before you say "Ah yes, but Coronation Street started in the mid-60's" it went to two episodes a week sometime in the mid 90's (I think) and stopped being a "weekly episodic" televison show.

Technicalities are everything.

Well, Guinness state series so I'd say it includes all four incarnations. :)

Wow! That is incredible. Congrats on the whole team! Keep going and don't let the hamsters starve or we will lose that record ;)

This reminds me of the episode of Only Fools and Horses where Trigger (iirc) wins the competition for having the longest surviving broomstick, only for him to admit its had 7 new heads and 3 new shanks. "longest running series" - has been "off air" for 20+ years :-D

Yeah...I pointed this out on Twitter...they didn't answer. :p

Congratulations to all. Elite will always be more than 'just a game' I played. It was a place I lived as a child. I'm glad to say some of that magic is still there now 30 years later.

Congratulations Frontier

I would never have imagined when I was hooked on 'Elite' on my old Beeb back in 1984, that i would get hooked again on 'Elite' in my 50's.

Keep up the good work and keep us all entertained for another 30 plus years.
