News Elite: Officially the longest-running space simulation series

I don't usually post here, though I have long been a lurker around these parts.
I'd like to make an exception to thank Frontier for the countless hours of fun and awe Elite has given me over the years.
I appreciate you all, please keep doing what you do!

Hello,

Congratulations for this achievement. Wow, I remember sitting in my room playing Elite on my Amiga 500...

Now I play ED with a friend from my childhood days and his two sons... Wow... time is running....

Yes well done David and everyone who contrubutied toward Elite on that 30 year run. Onwards to the 4th decade!

Congrats to frontier and do all of us 84rs get put in the Guinness book also for playing the longest running space sim?
plus david is asking for trouble as you could put anything in that frame.

:D Nice to see your still up to your naughty ways. Thank you too Mobius for all those great images you created, some made me cry others left me in fits of laughter. :D Anyways David as an imperial? No, no David is THE Imperial!

Awesome... I remember seeing and playing Elite back on the C64 back in 1985 or 1986 when a buddy of mine got a Commodore home computer. I begged and pleaded and did tons of extra chores to get by parents to buy me one as well, telling them it would be a great investment for my school work... hehe...yeah, right. Used it for games all the way, and Elite was part of my game collection.

Excellent, I hope it continues even after we are gone, just because it is such a pleasing thought. But only if the spirit is maintained!

top marks there!

hopefully, everything going right, i shall have an original bbc mirco version of elite in my hands tomorrow before heading of to gamescom. to me it all still is a 1986s teenagers summer dream that keeps coming true ^^

To me elite isn’t just a game, it’s my small bedroom in my parents’house with my commodore 64 hooked up to a tiny TV that I was able to explore a virtual universe.
It was an entity that transcended book or film where I could be whatever my imagination wanted me to be, a trader a pirate a bounty hunter or an explorer.
It literally pulled on the reigns my imagination and said where to today CMDR and secrectly if I amhonest, I always hoped it was like the film The Last Starfighter, where if I became good enough at the game I would berecruited as a pilot for the alien defence force.
I have literally only just found elite dangerous after 30 years and a chance conversation at work. I have only been back in the black for two days but, I feel like I have come home.
As a final testament to this game I can honestly, not think of any game I have played in my 47yrs that
makes me feel the way this game does.

BigFW your statement in your comment is spot on.

A massive thank you to the people who created and developed the original elite and a massive thank you if any are reading this to any of you who were involved in the resurgence of this awesome game.

P.S
Alien Defence force if you’re reading this I am still available to recruit, but I may need a slightly wider seat in my ship.;)

See you in the black guys.

I have to confess my age.... I played the original on the Acorn Electron, Commodore64 and the Amiga coloured one!
Absolutely chuffed I found this and managed to run it on my dual core laptop...

Congratulations David :)
