Hardware & Technical Elite on 2400G APU?

the reviews on youtube are rolling in and the numbers are not to shabby. clearly its the fastest ever APU and probably it should handle open space and space stations well (atleast matches gt1030 with fast ddr4) but maybe thinking moon landings and driving not too good?
let us know when anyone of you are able to test this out =)

From what I've gathered it seems to be around the 750ti / GT 1030 levels of performance, both can do planets with limits. My old vanilla 750 could push out 30fps so it should be doable.

That said, the 2200G represents much better value with its performance not that far off the 2400G at stock and cheaper by a large number of beer chits.

Of course this leaves me with a dilemma.

I want to build a new rig, my nephews need a better rig than what they have (another of my old rigs).

Do I:

(a) go all out and build a Ryzen 1600 (or Ryzen 2) rig and run with the current rigs GTX 960 which would leave the nephews running with the elderly GTX 460 in their current rig. (At least until I get a new 20 series card)

Or

(B) Go for one of these APU's knowing that, for the moment, I only have a 720p capable screen so performance margins are going to be marginal over what I have now. Effectively my current rig is really CPU bound, the new one, at least for a while, would be the other way.

Of course, option B leaves my nephews with a better rig than what they have now and me, probably on par, at least at my resolution.

But I am a nice guy (and I really want to build a new rig)

The more I read and watch about these APU's the more the excited I get about them and building a new rig with them instead of an Intel build. Especially with the crazy prices of GPU's at present.

I'd also be really interested in how this turns out, as I've been thinking about parts along the same lines as you @MickyG1982, including running a GTX 960/970.

Jay goes back to this option (after his first problematic look) with some decent results:

Really, if i was building a new rig today i would not be looking to buy a gaming GPU, they are just way over-priced (and second hand has high risk of ex-mining used ones), so this would be a serious consideration as a stop-gap to allow some gaming until the bitcoin bubble bursts.
