Well I wasn't touting it as a major money spinner for me. Just something to add a bit of extra income to my business but foremost getting some kits out there. I have a small model company but its currently in its early stages and is paying for itself and growth. Me and my partner take no wages from it. The Elite ships would have been a nice addition to the catalogue.

Maybe I should have specified what I meant by "inexpensive". The 3d printer we have at work cost $2000 and really does quite a nice job. I realize this is quite a bit of money to make 1 ship model, but actually is pretty inexpensive, especially if you can find other uses for it.
Get the gunpla companies on board. Those models are amazing and fun to build. Fun thinking about elite ships done by them with working hardpoint deployment and landing gear.

FD wouldn't have the resources to manufacture detailed model kits. They would need to sell a licence to a third party company to make the tooling, manufacture, market and distribute. For probably a 7-10% net royalty at best. Finding a third party company to sign a license deal is extremely difficult without a proven and profitable market for them to enter. With ED being a bit of a niche and maybe only a small percentage of its players/fans to buy such kits, it's unfortunately an unviable move for FD. As much as I would love to see these being a modeller myself.

I have no idea what the cost of producing would be and likely selling prices based on potential volume. It would be interesting to throw up a thread and see what the interest was at the various pricing points. Having a decent model kit of one of the ships would I suspect be something that quite a few CMDRS would be interested in, including myself. I suspect quite a few would pre-order if the price point was right for them. FD might be more interested if they can see the demand.
