Elite prestige rankings...

So when you rank up in every aspect of Elite Dangerous (Trade, Combat, Explorer) you see an improved badge that grows all the way to Elite.
Yet now when you hit the "prestige" ranks it stays the same??
No stars to denote the ranks of 1 to 5? Or Roman symbols? Just the same old badge...
Honestly, that was actually a pretty big let down to not see recognition for this extension above Elite with the badge.
Oh well...

Prestige ranks???

Is this an EDO thing? What's it all about?
Elite I to V on top of the old Elite ranks.

Of course without taking into account the old numbers, so a new player who sells 5 billion in trade* after the Odyssey cap will be Elite V,
while the old player who traded 10 billion before Odyssey will only be Elite 0.

*numbers may not represent actual numbers in game.

given that these are in place to give Odyssey a bit of longevity I cannot see it being retroactive
I'm surprised you don't get any visual recognition for it though, maybe there's a special one for Elite V (elite 5? as in the sequel to Elite D? so Odyssey is seen as a sequel?? hmm - who put that tinfoil there????)

Cheers CMDR, I see what you mean about the implementation. Who wants a n00b nipping at you heels after 20 minutes in his Type 7.:mad::mad::mad::mad::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Elite + ranks are a sad joke and tell nothing about how long a player actually played/worked on Stuff. Everything done after Elite before the "expansion" is not credited.

It is just like the PvP Prestigeranks in world of Warcraft. When they were implemented there was a bug to generate hundreds of Prestige levels so there was people running around with absurdly high prestigelevels right at the start. The bug got fixed but the "cheated" levels didnt get removed. thus they lost all value.

I never paid too much attention to those ranks (at least after making first Elite and getting access to Jameson's Memorial), but I did notice them and making triple Elite was some kind of rite of passage, after which I was able to completely forget about those stupid ranks.
It worked. Now, I can honestly say that those new ranks mean absolutely nothing to me.

So much this...^^^

The ranks mean nothing in the game.
Nor credits.
Nor ships you fly.
Because everything of that could be achieved using "shortcuts".

What we need actually is making visible "the time spent in the game" probably.

Oh good grief.. Elite+ ranks ? This approaches a level of... insanity. Whats next ? Elite 5+, with Gold Oak Leaves and Knights Cross ?

My rank is my current skill set along with the ship ( and engineering tricks ) I am flying. The number of dead behind me, the trade runs I made, and the systems I mapped, are yesterdays news.

Does it matter? I know how tough it is to get to combat Elite. You'll get an admiring o7 from grizzled explorers like myself regardless of the number of pips or stars under the Elite badge...

To be fair, it's not "tough", it's mind numbing grindy. Which is not exactly the same.

Some dude posted on reddit, as a personal challenges, he went to elite combat with a sidewinder. Alt account, never used anything but a sidewinder. Engineered and all that, but still.

Still respect for reaching combat elite.

Yes, that's quite true Erei. But one can achieve Elite ranks for exploration and trade in a day with very little skill. Combat ( in a Sidewinder?!) requires a bucket-load of skill. As a weekend deep-space explorer I really do admire the FA-off skills that I've seen when I return to the Bubble.

I agree. Ranks means little, and certainly not a test of skill. I was elite explorer stupidly fast as a new player. Surprised myself, went exploring for 2 days, came back and was half way through the last rank. Literally.

Which make those "prestige" rank even sillier, IMO.
