If you want a pvp battleground, just choose a location and start encouraging others who want to pvp to turn up.

Perhaps it will snowball and become the goto place for a spot of pvp action.

You might want to pick an anarchy system btw ;)
OK then, as another poster says need to organise it via the forums, which is a pity, but...

Organise a time and place. Everyone brings something expensive (say palladium) as an entrance fee. Dump it (as abandoned, so no smuggling needed) and the adjudicating ship (need someone honest here) scoops it. Organises a series of fights, losers have an insurance bill and no palladium, winner gets all the palladium (so don't turn up in a ship with no cargo capacity!). Best way might be to form a group for it (I've not worked out the ways and means of making sure people are in the same place and the same instance).

For a less expensive version duel to 50% hull or even just to take down shields (and no power plant targetting!)

I don't think queueable battleground are appropriate in this game, however I do agree with the point that it should be easier to find and participate in PVP. I think the galaxy map should have a filter for systems with known warzones.

Conflict zones require huge effort to appear and I'm not sure if it's even player driven event at all. In any way it will require a lot of travel, it can disappear at any moment and more importantly - It doesn't guarantee that you can face certain opponent. We need some means for that, so we can have bloodsport tournaments, test our mettle against best of the best. Sure ping/latency is the issue here so we can have some artificial leagues that sort us in some "ladders". Once you sorted there - you can automatically move between those ladders depending on the current connection and speed.

Say that story-wise it's the unavoidable evil of organizing tournaments, there's always some issues here and there while getting things done. So that's why you have to move between "ladders". Cops or some crazy religious fanatics can attack site of the tournament and organizing one involves a lot of compromise. So all in all it's hardly going to be perfect with all the warping possible in combat, sometimes I see another players just teleporting here and there in Supercruise. But at least people will have an idea whom they are fighting, what statistics of the opponent are and so on.

It won't be ideal. in any iteration it will involve a lot of decisions that a lot of people will be unhappy about. But it's better to have PvP tournaments than don't have them at all. If you don't like the idea - nobody is forcing it on anyone. It's like single player option. Some people like it, some don't. But we have the option nevertheless and you can avoid PvP at any moment you like. Let those of us who want consistent PvP have it.

No no no no no not no no no no no no... This idea just fly's in the face of what the game is.

The whole game is open pvp if you want it. Else fly to a confict system. This is not WoW. You can't force people to PvP, but this whole universe is wide open for it. Just interdict people.

The whole of Alpha 2, 3 and 4 was just one massive PvP battle ground sandpit.
Much fun was had by all for months! :D
As explained above...just fly to a conflict zone.
This is a large rich game...not a pew pew ego boosting battle arena.

I'm all for keeping it seamless and retaining Elite Lore.

But I also see nothing wrong with having a battle arena.
At best to test components, loadouts and hone skills.

One could easily justify such a mode with an in-world battle simulator found at certain stations.
Sending people to play Star Citizen? I see no need for that kind of attitude.
Not everyone takes in life with the same patience, some need a rollercoaster ride, and that's OK.

Besides, had the in-game comm system been fleshed out to actually have been useful and working, then organizing meetings at a particular system could be encouraged.
But if they need to go totally out-of-game, post here or elsewhere for people to meet up... How is this in any way keeping things in-world and immersive?

I voted YES.

Warcrack in space, no thanks. I give Blizz money for warcrack, I don't need all the same problems here as well.

No one would force us or anyone to partake in that sort of thing.
Aside from the fact that giving them such an arena would take them out of the trade-lanes and out of our more trade-inclined galaxy.

I'm definitely gonna say yes ! Maybe "improving" conflict zone to makes them more attractive could be a good idea instead of implementing something completely new.

No - no magic shut off pvp zones. Key word here is SIMULATION. Keep the game world as logically consistent as possible.

Like Rall says though - Imperial Coliseum - thats a pretty groovy idea!

There could be some solar systems within the game that are considered as conflict zones. That would be perfectly logic. But instead of a normal conflict zone, the conflict would take place in the entire system, and the results of the war would chose the future allegiance of the system.

There was an elite D pvp battleground in alpha. One of the 4 hotspots you could go to.

It worked well as somewhere the pvpers could go. Don't see why there can't be persistant USS's of this nature that people could learn where they are- spread by word of mouth and congregate to if they want to.

It had npcs as well as players and was kill sport themed with credits for kills.

I feel a bit of hypocrisy in some comments. Once standalone singleplayer was ditched - people were complaining, but after all they got their singleplayer alright. Not exactly as promised but it was delivered. People were asking to be left alone, they didn't wanted any PvP and just wanted to play ED way they wanted. Without any interruptions. And now they got it. But asking for an _option_ to get more PvP for those of us who interested - oh noes! Grab torches and pitchforks! Burn the heretics! They can't have PvP on our watch! :D

I'm sure there must be a tourism world who in order to try and attract visitors decides to set up a gladiatorial competition. It's a pretty dark galaxy we're playing in after all. I'm not that interested in this sort of thing, but there are plenty of people who are - so why not?

But wouldn't it result in less griefing? Hardcore pvpers would prefer that over searching or camping at anarchy systems for some poor soul...
There are even player groups with 1000+ players who shut themselves out of open world because of griefers.
I think 1000+ players more in open world would be nice.

And the option for instant pvp to test setups or tactics are not bad, too.
Or even just for the fun of fast insta action.

Those thousand odd players burying their heads in the sand are losing out on the full experience that is Elite, and are not such a loss in the open playground of over a hundred thousand players. With such a vast playground, one would be hard pressed to find other players unless you hang out in a few starter systems anyways.
