Elite rank exploration just by pinging ADS?

Elite rank exploration just by pinging ADS

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had gone from trailblazer to elite, by just pinging systems with the advanced discovery scanner, not bothering with detailed scans. If so, how many LY roughly did it take you?
I say this because I've set myself a challenge to achieve triple elite, by a certain date.

That's going to take a lot of scans. IIRC, non-stars just pinged with an ADS gets you 500 credits, while stars get a little more. As opposed to a single neutron star, undiscovered by someone else, netting you about 60 000 credits from a detail-scan.

That's what I did (sort of) in two trips. You have to go out to the neutron star fields about 13KLY out, which takes about 8 hours. Scan all the systems with your ADS on the way. When you get there, you jump from one neutron star to the next using the ADS, then you have to DSS just the neutron star. After you've done 1000, which takes about 20 hours, you can make the journey back for another 8 hours, scanning all the systems with your ADS. That will get you about 90 million for 36 hours work. You need 160 million for Elite rank. It's got to be the most boring way to play the game, so do it while you watch TV.

You'll fall into a lot of stars when you lose concentration, so take as many heat-sinks as you can and a decent AFMU. By the time you've done 1000 neutron stars, your hull and power plant will be getting worryingly low. That's why I say two trips.

On a sort-of related note I wonder if anyone has reached exploration elite without ever leaving the bubble.

For unfathomable (to me) reasons there seem to be vast number of unmapped systems there.

cheers. Looks like i'm going to have to neutron farm,or maybe I'll just adjust my goals and actually explore lol.
I'd suggest mixing the two. Enjoy the exploration but go hit the neutrons so you get a good feeling of progression toward the rank and some nice cash when you get back...just don't blow up before you cash it all in. You're going to need 50-60 seconds per neutron once you get the routine down, and you'll be getting ~50k each (60k is very optimistic and rare for a neutron in my experience). I'd estimate 3,000 neutrons and all the data you'll get going to and coming from them if you go all the way to the core side of the neutrons and don't actually detail scan anything but a neutron star, so about 50hrs just scanning neutrons and then probably 12hrs each way of travel. So maybe 75hrs of efficient gameplay.

That's correct for the basic value of the mapping, but when I last did it, 820 out of the 1000 gave me a 27000 bonus for being the first to discover them. That meant that the 50k increased to an average of at least 75k.
