Elite rank progression in Solo

Do you gain Elite ranks in Solo play, I was going around in Solo for a while blasting loads of pirates and never gained anything. Ships from Elite Anacondas to pitiful Sidewinders and still Harmless.

Go into Open or Group blast a few big ships and I get a rank

Yes you can gain ranks in solo.

If I remember rightly combat is a mix of "how many" things you kill and the "quality" of what you kill.
Don't think anyone has exact numbers but it does seem to be an on/off kind of thing so you must have just got the rank at the open play time by coincidence.

Of course, the Game does not care in what mode you play it treats you always the same.
