I seem to recall the Players brand and I definitely remember Cambridge.

I smoked some odd, off brands in my day but many of those are new to me. Did those come from the US?

Edit....After going back through the pics I remember seeing the Century brand and maybe True Gold but I don't remember that pack style. Maybe I am thinking USA Golds (which were not that old).

I mostly stuck with Marlboro though Camel and Winston made appearances. Then taxing and pricing got out of hand and I went for the "generics" until I finally quit a decade ago.

Hey wait....Decade was another off brand cig. :D

I wish you use the Spoiler tag to make the OP shorter.

Very cool post.

But would never buy a cigarette. Yuck. Stinks and don't want to kiss any ashtrays.

Plus most smokers throw their butts down wherever they are. Yuck.

Still gave +1 for historical merit.

I don't think I can remember the time before health warnings on packets. My main exposure to them was with a Saturday job in the early 90s at the local supermarket and they were sold at every till rather than a dedicated counter. Collectors' pieces are probably the best thing for cigarette packets to be.

Yes these are packs from the USA, from a very long time ago. Perhaps 50s-1980s, and would be very bad to smoke. I just saw how many packs reminded me of the game, and posted the images. I didnt intend for them to be so large on screen, but figured 2.5K users might be ok. I would never buy any of these, as they are not what I like to collect, but its a crazy world and I thought someone might be interested.

As for smoking causes X, it turns out smoking is relatively harmless unless you abuse it, just like any other drug, and all the hype and hysteria was manufactured after a handful of 5 and 6 pack-a-day people sued the manufacturers for saying "its harmless" when of course it isnt. This admittance of harm caused a backlash, but if it kills as many people as they claim, we should all be able to name 10 people who died from X recently, or last year, as a result of a lifetime of smoking, but smokers live on until they die - same as the rest of us. Nobody ever died from smoking less than 10 a day, like I do, and all the people who I interviewed who quit for health reasons said they smoked at least 40 a day, which would seem like chain smoking to me. Im for pro choice, but smoking is becoming another prejudice. I wouldnt do it if I didnt enjoy it.

i noticed that many non-smokers' breath is like rotten food. i'd rather an ashtray any day.
i guess the moral is: quit smoking? then brush your teeth more.

recently i read an article in which some doctors were surprised that there were still too many cases of lung cancer, even though smoker numbers had decreased, and even occurring in people who never smoked or were never around secondary smoke. BUT they all drove. i'm wondering if vehicle exhaust is the real culprit, and cigs just helped make matters worse
