Just out of curiosity:

Is there any information how many copies of Elite were sold so far, i.e. how successful was the launch?

With frontier development IPO happening in December, I wonder if someone could dig through public reports/ shareholder reports and glean anything about Elite Sales? I doubt they will release any real numbers to us.

At least 25,000 bought a copy on kickstarter. Since then I think it has got a lot more pre-orders (someone mentioned several million quids worth?), and its certainly got a fair bit of press

What IPO in December ? I thought that happened 18 months ago ? In any case you wouldn't get the annual report to include sales this soon after launch. And yes like any other stock I expect you can short it - looks like it's price has dropped a few pence since game launch but I doubt you'll make any money

This genre is a niche market, thats why they used a Kickstarter program to get it funded. Pretty sure Frontier never planned on this being some blockbuster spectacular, and I imagine based on the reviews they are getting from the major outlets they are outselling their expectations.

Bottom line is David Braben and crew are basically making a game they want to play that doesnt exist on the marketplace, and they're nice enough to let those of us who share a similar interest buy in on it.
