As I'm preparing the Ship Showcase thread for the Distant Worlds 2 expedition, I'm expanding Katejina's original concept to a fully automated and exhaustive showcase of the entire fleet, that would look something like below (that was a test of a work-in-progress):
For this to work as intended, I'm using a ship/livery matrix to match ships with their existing liveries and EDSM's database of ship/livery combo pictures (thanks Anthor!) to automatically assign a specific picture for each Cmdr, based on the ship and livery they select on the registration form.
This is where I'm facing 2 obstacles:
- the matrix is based on the store, google, hearsay and quite inaccurate lists (Wiki, etc.).
- EDSM doesn't have *all* ship/livery combo pictures.
Tis why I'm posting here for help! I'm inviting you to:
- add the existing paintjobs I missed
- add a NOTE for those that don't exist
- send me a pic, or add a note with a link to a pic of a combo we don't have
Here's the matrix.
- Under each ship name, the LEFT column is for the status of the combo (exists or not) ; write "x" if it exists.
- The RIGHT column is for the availability of the picture. "y" if we have it, "n" if we dont. There is nothing you need to write on these columns. Sometimes it says "y" but it's a pic I grabbed from Google and doesn't really match the EDSM template ; there's a note saying an updated picture would be welcome.
Speaking of template, the ship/livery combo picture needs to respect this template:
3/4 face, slightly elevated, and *as much as possible*, in a tourist station hangar or similar, because the light is decent there
1920x1080, Ultra Settings, max in-game POV, PNG format.
Although created for the Ship Showcase, the Matrix will of course stay open from now on, if anyone ever needs to check the existence of a particular livery, and will be updated throughout the year.
