I have put off posting this as my experience of forums is somewhat poor as I have dyslexia so please be kind.
Am sure we all have some funny memory's of elite especially the older players here mine. elite was one of the first computer games I ever played with my two older brothers, this plus a insane rivalry between them and a little 6 year old stuck in the middle......sigh......
Ok players off Elite will remember the dreaded hyper drive malfunction !!! this plus my brother winding me up as scarred me for life.. So in my house it was well known that there was a race between my 2 bothers on who could get elite rating first, this bordered on the crazy days off sick and them playing jokes on each other like hiding each others cassette tape with there saves on and on and so on.....
so one day am bugging my brother to play elite, he gave in and said that I could fly around wile he was cooking some food, I had 0 clue what I was doing bashing random keys and moving the joystick and loving every second of it. After a epic battle with a asteroid and convinced I was pro ( sigh lol ) and telling my brother I could kick his bum anytime at elite he then told me i could fly to his next trade stop I guess he was hoping some pirate would put me in my place.......... exited I pressed that J key and....... He shouts out at the top of his voice..." OH no... what have you done to my game !!!!!!! " I look around to see the familiar screen of elite as changed THERE NO STARS he shouts out, then suddenly the radar fills with bad guys ( only a year later would i find out this was normal and part of the game ) I did my best to fight them off panicking and pressing B ( the bomb ) I died.... He then crys out YOU KILLED ME !!!!! as bits of his ship are floating past.......
By this point am giggling like crazy and I go back to doing random 6 year old stuff....... The seed of terror was planted....... all tho I had fallen in love with elite.....
so years later and playing elite 2 & 3 and other space games I find that when ever I play elite 1 or go to a star system with out starts or it don't look " normal " on ANY space sim then the hairs on my neck stand up my toes curl and now am 35 !!!!!! at 35 a computer game freaks me out coz theirs no stars and its all down to my older brother winding me up for getting him killed years ago rofl !!!!!!!

Bribery.......
Elite with out a docking computer was a nightmare for anyone, but for two determined penny pinching brothers of mine they had to dock manually for the space of about a week the house was filled with crys of well i cant repeat them on a forum heheh.... till one fateful afternoon the family was sat around the computer watching me play elite doing random things but after about a hour of trying I get to the space station and dock flawlessly first time... shouts again that I cant repeat on a forum rang in my ears..... my brother grabs the joystick and leave the station I just dock at and moves me away..... with the challenge of £1 says you cant do it again.... easiest £1 i ever made rofl.... then the bidding war started between my two brothers seeing a advantage in there race. a Mcdonalds later and am co pilot for my oldest brother
