A quick google on EVE online's player demographic pulls the following nugget:
"As of October 2006, the average age of an Eve Online player was 27, and 95% of players were male. The average weekly playtime was 17 hours, or just under 2.5 hours per day"
I would imagine that E D would appeal to a broadly similar demographic with gameplay hours possibly tapering off the older one got. That said there are probably more old duffers like me willing to give E D a go, particularly once the realisation that there is a single player version out there that permits game saves, dipping into the game etc etc.
