Newcomer / Intro Elite Technology?

Stupid question perhaps.
Buuut I want to know, for the multiplayer part of course, if this game is inside a single instance (like EvE Online) or a multiple one with like a user number roof (Like WoW)?
How does it work?

Thanks!

Thorlake

Multiple connected instances, so much closer to EVE than WoW.

Or, maybe a better comparison is that it's like DayZ, only instead of picking a server manually, the matchmaking server drops you into an instance automatically.

If you have friends on your list, it tries to put you in the same instance that they are if you're in the same system.

Everyone is on one big server, but every location is split into many instances/shards to handle the load. I think I read that the maximum number of players in a location instance is 32?

Ah, thanks!
Do you also know how many players are "allowed" in every instance or what is the deciding factor to build new ones or where to place you? This could also perhaps explain why some players complained about not meeting any other players/that many players?
Cheers!

As above, the match making server deals with grouping players together to give the best experience.
Players are grouped based on various factors, being a friend with another player increases the probability of being paired up with them.
All network traffic related to seeing other players in close proximity (e.g. combat) is peer to peer to give the lowest latency.

All traffic is peer to peer? Hmm... won't that open the door for abuse if there's no server instance to soundcheck results?
