Elite - The First Next Gen Game!

Hi All,

I had one of the best/intense experiences of my 30 years of gaming last night. I've been mostly staying around my starter system and just building up the credits to i can fully kit out my Eagle. So far i have nearly 1 million invested in it. I'm quite happy with just sticking with the Eagle and can hold my own against most ships.

I don't feel the need to progress with the bigger ships. Now i've got the Eagle kitted out i've decided to travel to Sol. I'm also playing in VR on the DK2. First of all i explored the solar system and flew around the Capital Ship. Amazing.

Next i headed to the rings of Jupiter and to a Resource Extraction point. I couldn't believe it. Hundreds of ships were in combat. I felt like i was in Star Wars. For the next hour i was in a huge war and earned a couple of hundred thousand credits.

It was an amazing experience in VR. All the time i was aware that this experience was not available anywhere else including the PS4 or XBox One. This is really the next gen of gaming and i know if any PS4 or XBox user could have tried this out for a few minutes it would have blown them away.

I too, had my first 12 hour stint last night and got stuck into some serious bounty hunting and 'cargo salvage' I even traveled the 120LY journey to pick up some onionhead and enjoy a touch of pew pew in one of the conflict zones followed by another 120LY trip to flog it for a tidy profit. On the way I scanned many new systems, took out a fair few interdictors, took in some amazing sights and made about 400K in that time.

It. Was. An. Absolutely. Enthralling. Experience.

I'm one of the lucky few who get to start the game in a long range Cobra which is kitted out with some excellent equipment from the start. And I honestly don't (yet) see any need to change it for anything else.

I am so so tempted to start another 12 hour stint today.

So jealous! I remember long gaming sessions.. most I can manage now is an hour or two when the baby is alseep or when the baby and wife are asleep at night!

My stint was only really possible 'cus her indoors has comedown with a flu like bug and spent the day in bed! She's no better today.... I just make sure she's as comfy as she can be. My reward is to travel the Galaxy and carve out a little bit of a name for myself in a tiny corner of it.

I've just gotten back from a long explore that ended at HIP 63835 and its interesting system (on the gal map it mentioned an O5V and three black holes, but it has *so* much more). Even plotting the trip of over 230ly from where I started was an interesting exercise. Returned exhausted, a bit scorched and a million credits richer. Something like 60-70 systems explored.

Resulted in a rank progression mission and now I have the permit for Achenar. Going to work on my standings a bit, but the lure of the deep black is starting to call again...

i know if any PS4 or XBox user could have tried this out for a few minutes it would have blown them away.

I am a PS4 user and a PC user.

I am also an Elite Alpha tester and know what you are talking of however I feel that as there is nothing in comparison on these consoles yet then it is hard to assume that they would be blown away by anything more than the novelty of it. I did ask all the way back in the beginning if this game would move to consoles and there was some interest in it but FD want to concentrate on the PC version first. There is certainly nothing like Elite on the PS4 or XBONE and I know it would be highly successful on both of these platforms especially with the PS4 having it's own VR headset soon.

For me atm I have not been able to tear myself away from GTAV I think I played myself out in the testing phases of Elite. I will come back to it and will play it fully again but for me atm I'm having fun on my PS4 while having a few sorties in Elite, haven't even cracked a mill in game yet!

I'm a stay-at-home-dad, and my wife understands my need to escape reality once in a while
In fact, I am currently not at home, but have my PC with me, and plan to do almost nothing but play all day tomorrow. I may get square eyes yet, or at least 16:10 ratio ones..

Yeah the asteroid fields are lovely. Its a pity atm there aren't any missions to go there. Looking forward to something like that there.

I would agree that this is the first true 'next gen' game. Namely because of its Oculus support but even without that it has a lot of features (server related) that havent been tried before

I'm going to head there myself later today, but I'm currently in a little system at the very top of our inhabited space bubble after doing some exploration. It's gonna be a long trip. On the plus side, I might just stop by Lave for a special tipple and sell it on closer to SOL.
Another reason why this game is so freekin brilliant. The freedom to choose what you want to do, when you want to do it and how you get it done is totally up to you.
